Central Boiler / Re: CB 6048 Water temp way too low!

Maybe this is a dumb question, but in you opinion do you burn more wood with the fan on the 6048? Was looking into adding for faster recovery times.

I've heard some people say that a good bed of ash is insulation. Not sure if it's true or not.  I would try to stay below the door though.  Mine is a few inches below door.  Once a week I try to let everything burn up real good, damper is open most of the day. I have only emptied one 5 gal. bucket since mid October.

Anyone use those starter logs to get there fire going again? They work or not worth the money?

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Why CB factory sets at 175-185

Would you burn much more wood raising the temp from the factory setting to 180 on 190 off?

I have had mine going now since mid October and have only emptied ash once.  About three 5 gallon buckets is all.  I am pretty sure I read in the manual to empty ash once it reaches bottom of door, that's about six inches from bottom.  If that wasn't the most efficient way to heat, I'm sure central boiler would recommend emptying ash more often.  I just stir it up good everyday and seems to be workin fine for me.

Central Boiler / Re: Temp drop

Thanks for all replys.  I observed it today as much as I could and Muffin I think your right.   Once the damper opens it just takes awhile for the natural draft to get the fire going good again.  Damper does open at 174 like snake said just takes awhile to get back up to 185 with natural drift.   Will definitely look into the blower attachment.   Thanks.

Central Boiler / Temp drop

I have been burning my new 6048 a month now and still am trying to figure everything out. Here in Ohio today it was really windy and cold.  Went out in the morning and the temp was 167 and had plenty of wood in it.   We turn the thermostat in the house down to 66 at night and when I get up I turn up to 69 or 70.  Is it normal for the water temp to get that low why the furnace is running for a while to get the house temp up? If so, would it be better to not fluctuate the house thermostat so much, that way it doesn't run as long to heat up 3 to 4 degrees? Owb is set to factory temp setting.

Central Boiler / Re: Insulation in side door

Is there any disadvantage to insulate the side door? Been running my 6048 for a month now and was thinking about it.

Central Boiler / Newbie with a dumb question
« on: October 22, 2012, 08:14:24 AM »
Had my OWb going now for three weeks and everything going great. This week going to be really mild in Ohio and was going to let my fire go out. My question is do you usually just turn the power off and let it go or do you keep the water circulating?
Thanks for any info.

Got it installed on Thursday and fired it up that evening.   Love not hearing the water heater kick on.

Thanks for all the input everyone.  I was leaning towards the 6048, just needed a little help jumping all in.  It's big investment I just need to pull the trigger now.

Central Boiler / Newbie Looking to Buy!
« on: August 13, 2012, 11:48:24 AM »
New to the site and my first post! I built my house a year ago and have an endless amount of wood for free so decided I didn't want to pay $3000 a year on propane. My house is just under 3000 sq ft that I will heat and have a 30x40 pole barn that I may insulate and heat someday.  I am looking at buying either the 5036 or 6048 and can't decide which to buy. There is a $2000 difference in price.  Please give me some advice on which one would be best for my needs. Thanks for any input.
