General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Help please
« on: August 26, 2012, 03:12:07 PM »
I'm building a new passive solar home in ontario, Canada. We have decided to go with a Heatmaster G200 OWB. I'm having some difficulty design the system and require help. The boiler is going to be about 35 feet from the house using the 1'' thermopex pipping
My needs are?
heating approx 900 sqft walkout basement which is going to be polished concrete flooring,
250 sqft in main floor which will be tiled or slate
heat exchanger in furnace
and some type of DHW exchanger.
I have a electric boiler and electric furnace for summer and backup purposes. The furnace also meets the heatloss for the house. Total size of the total size of the heatable space is about 3100 sqft
I'm trying to figure out a schematic diagram?, as well as which exchangers to use for domestic hot water?
If you run a larger plate HX for DHW would you run separately from the electric boiler system? (I'm a little green). I did read some people using a plate HX for ingoing water in the boiler and then a sidearm to maintain temperature. Is this a desirable system, or one out of necessity? Another green question, do you need a heat exchanger for the radiant floor or can it run on the OWB loop. If so which one will work for my needs?
If my OWB temperature is set to 175 degrees, what is the best way to get 120 degrees for the radiant floor heating? Or is it fine to run 175ish degree water through the radiant floor?
I also heard that when running the pex pipe that you dont want your lines to exceed 180ft. Is this correct?
If anyone can answer any of these questions that would be great?
Thanks
