Heatmor / Re: new heatmor and having huge issues
« on: January 30, 2014, 06:00:26 AM »
My 2 yr old heatmore does have two aquastats one shuts the fan down for overheating.Sounds to me like there is definetly a wiring/aquastat problem. But two bad stats? The high temp stat should be shutting the draft fan down

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Fire going out
« on: October 23, 2013, 06:18:59 AM »
My second year burning my stove.I fired it up Monday (10/21) everything went as it should, but since then the fire has went out twice.I don't remeber having that problem last year at approx the same ambient temps.Heatmor recommends 185 degree shutoff w/ a 15 degree diff.
I ran it that way all last year,w/ the problems I am having this year I am considering lowering the differential. What do others do in this kind of weather......55-60 highs and 35-40 lows here in NW Va. I probably should have waited another week or two but I have lots of wood to burn.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Creosote coming out door?
« on: October 21, 2013, 02:23:33 PM »
Getting ready to fire up this week this being my 2nd year on my boiler.Several times during the summer I would open the exterior door and on the shelf that is under door there would be a noticeable amount of liquid creosote.I wouldn't think my gasket would need replaced the stove was purchased brand new last year.Is this normal?I thought I did a fairly descent job of cleaning the stove last season.I don't see anyway to adjust the door to make it close tighter.Any ideas?

I am in year 1 w/ my 200 heatmor and have been very pleased,I did a fair amount of research before purchasing and I decided on heatmor knowing several people who had owned them for 10 years w/o any major issues.I like the forced draft fan and have not heard of them being a problem.I also really like the way you can auger the ashes out the back with out sucking up a face full of smoke.Jus my 2 cents.

This is my first year burning and have enjoyed the whole experience.I live in a wooded area that makes it very convient for cutting wood within literally yards of my home.I added a 1000 sq. ft. shop to my heating load this winter,I only keep the shop at 45 degree unless I am in there like most of the weekend and evenings I have the home at 72 degree up from 70 in previous years. My home is 11 years old very well insulated w/ excellent windows (lots of them).I had what I would consider a very efficient heating system for my avg. ambient winter temp. My heat pump would operate at temps. 40 degree and above below that my gas furnace would cut in.I have kept very accurate records of my savings so I could share the info w/ friends. My area has had a very similiar winter compared to last year so I compared this years vs. last.My electrical savings are pushing 40% ($80.00 x 5mo.=$400.00) Propane approx. 400 gal. @ $3.50=$1400.00.Approx. $2000.00 = 10 year payback.
2 degree warmer house = happy wife.....1000sq. ft. shop warm as need be but never below 45 to keep essentials from freezing=happy me.With me I would do it again.Just my 2 cents

I started my stove at the end of October.I have a heat pump w/ propane back-up that cuts on at 40 degree F. I to was disappointed in my electrical savings and started researching my usage,I hadn't noticed but my Killowatt usage had started going up by 25%-30% in the summer of 2012.When I started my stove the killowatt usage compared to prior year stayed about the same (8% reduction) still happy as I was not using any propane. Not ready to believe the electric usage I called the power company and started investigating with my amprobe. The power company sent a guy out and he did the same thing I did ,we couldn't find any load to support the KW usage. He decided to get a monitor (PMI?) put on the meter that monitored the usage 24/7.Heres where it gets fuzzy, the results showed a draw of close to 30amps almost constantly on a 120v circuit (BS).The electric guy couldn't explain it,I had amp draws 30times a day w/ my meter that refuted those readings.Long story short November & Dec. usage no savings.Since the study, with no changes made Jan. and Feb. usage down 40% on elec. the electric company has no explaination. Now my bill is around $100.00 and no propane.

You could repair w/ ''sharkbite'' fitting. They are sold at my local Lowes its a pushlock fitting, you simply push pex or copper into the fitting and it locks like a air push lock fitting.Ther pricey but very good quality and work great.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / moisture meter
« on: January 29, 2013, 02:30:36 PM »
My first year in the wood buning and fairly new to the forum I have really enjoyed the topics and have learned a lot of great info.
There seems to be alot of discussion about moisture levels,I know seasoned wood from green but thought it would be interesting to actually test the moisture content.Do the cheapo digital indicators hold up and are they accurate?Any suggestions on brand?

It is 8'' and yes it is pricey.I am on my first winter w/ stove and I started with un insulated pipe for that reason.Already had a hole burn thru one side of an adjustable elbow, not good my stove sets partly under a lean two framed off my new shop

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / New install with 1 issue
« on: November 05, 2012, 01:30:39 PM »
I recently built a new shop 30'x32' with a 12' lean to on side that houses my new heatmore OWB.I have been burning the stove for just over a week now.I extended the pipe above the lean to roof by approx. 4' I used regular galv. uninsulated 8'' stove pipe, due to some mis calulating during the project I had to put to adjustable offsets in the smoke stack (approx. 30 degree on ea) in order to miss the overhang on the end of the building I want to eventually replace w/ S.S. insulated pipe,at the time I couldn't find the offset fittings.I have since found them but would rather not purchase just yet (very pricey). The stove burns fine and keeps our water at the desired temperture my only issue is the amount of smoke that comes out the door while trying to load. The front 30'' or so of the stove is under roof and I smell of smoke every time I try and load it.I put a rain cap on top of the stack with no screen or sides its just a cap with open sides.I have tried loading my stove with the fan running and with it off, neither seem to make much difference.I live in a wooded area, the stove was installed below ground level with a 6' retaing wall at the back.As mentioned the stack is above the lean to roof but well below the peak of the main shop roof.As the smoke exits the stack it doesn't appear to linger.I was hoping not to extend the stack any higher. It is supported off the side w/ a standoff, going higher would probably require cables that I wouldn't like.Any suggestions??
