General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Backup Propane for forced air furnace
« on: March 24, 2014, 06:59:51 PM »
I sent back the 1000 gallon tank to amerigas and bought a used 120 gallon tank. Amerigas was charging me 160 dollars a year to rent the pig. Now I can call around and get the cheapest price since I own the 120. I was able to put it right next to the house . Only used 10 gallons this year because we had some could nights in October and didn't have the owb fired up yet .

When my monthly propane budget went to 315 dollars a month for a pretty well insulated house and themoatat set on 68 I had enough. I switched my cooking stove and water heater to electric and now heat my water with OWB also. When we built the house in 2002 my monthly budget was 150 a month which wasnt bad then .Now we set the stat at whatever temp we want which is usually 70 or 71 because its a warm heat. I bought a 120 gallon propane tank for back up heat so i dont have to pay the 150 dollar rental fee each year to keep there propane tank. Amerigas has called 3 times wanting to know if i need propane yet .

Happened to me last night, almost had a meltdown. I went out at 9 pm to fill the cb 5036 for the night and the digital display said 203 degrees . I had it set for 180 degrees. Solenoid on the natural draft was stuck wide open . Turned on the heat in the garage and in the house to try to get the temp down at the owb. Put WD 40 on the slides of the draft and its back in operation. Water level didnt change much either.

I have a central boiler 5036 and on my third season. I have been very happy with it . Heats the hot water and keeps the house as warm as i want it. I heat around 2800 sq feet and the house was built in 2002 and pretty well insulated. I also heat a 600 sq ft garage thats insulated.
