Plumbing / Re: recirculating pump on domestic water side
« on: December 09, 2013, 04:18:18 PM »
ok i have read some good things about installing a recirculating pump, but here is my problem i dont know if it would be better to install the pump or install a plate exchanger. my issue is it takes about 2 minutes to get hot water to the far end of my house and after 1 shower i need to wait about 4 hrs to let 90 gal hot water tank heat back up when i am using the sidearm exchanger fed from boiler when using electric instead of boiler it still takes about 2 minutes to get hot water and i can take 3 showers before running out of hot water. if i would install plate exchanger i would still use sidearm exchanger also. which route would you go?

Plumbing / recirculating pump on domestic water side
« on: December 07, 2013, 08:06:20 PM »
has anyone used a recirculating pump on the domestic water side of hot water tank without a return line back to tank? from what i have seen it seems to me that hot water recirculating back thru the cold line would give me warm water when i use the cold water. here is a link to pump that i was looking at http://www.pexuniverse.com/grundfos-up15-10su7p-tlc-comfort-system-595916

Plumbing / Re: sidearm vs plate exchanger and can they used together
« on: December 02, 2013, 07:58:56 PM »
i have read some things about both people seem to go either way on which one to use. i might be mistaken but i think that the plate exchanger you dont run out of hot water as fast as you would with sidearm and since i already have a sidearm and i am running out of hot water after one shower i didnt know if using both at the same time would help of just maybe take out sidearm and replace with plate exchanger?

i dont know much about the tank but the place on the top is a alternate place for pop off valve so i thought it would work the same as on the side. all the bends are when i first installed sidearm i didnt realize it was right in front of the tanks heating coils so as a quick fix i moved it over never thought to many bends would cause a problem but that will be my next step in trying to fix.

i have a portage and main optimizer 250 boiler apx 100 ft from sidearm exchanger i have the supply going to the top of the sidearm exchange with 1" pex then i have 3/4" copper from top sidearm exchange to alt pop off place on top of 80 gal hot water tank. the temp going into tank is about 175 degrees coming out of tank is about 90 degrees after 1 shower its about 60 degrees coming out. i had a taco 009-f5 pump and taco 5004-c2 mixing valve, i removed the mixing valve and replaced pump with a taco 2400-20-wb pump and still have same problem. any ideas i am running out of options?
