I bought a FLIR i5 camera when I started to fix up my house. They are awesome. Shows every thing with temp differential. Will show no insulation, every stud and windows that lost there gas between the two panes. What is really cool it will show your heat signature reflecting from the glass of picture frames. Looks like a ghost looking back at you. You wave at it and it waves back.

Use stainless steel expanded flat. You will burn up carbon steel.

Hire a high school kid to throw in some wood when you are gone. Turn the heat way down in the house when you are gone. Should have more coals left when you get home to get a hot fire quicker.

Mostly what I burn. I think it burns o.k. If it was cut green seems to be a better burn once it dries then cutting it when it has died or is dying on the tree. splits easy and does have a coal bed.

Do you have part numbers on Ranco controller. Have a 325 and thinking about doing the same thing but with a snap switch.

Does the boiler treatment degrade over time. Was concerned about dumping on the ground.

Was thinking about draining boiler this summer. No problems. Just to check if there is any sludge bottom. Maybe pressure washer the insides of water jacket out. It has been 4 years running. Question is, has anybody reused water. Pumped it through a real fine filter while draining and filling. Have always kept boiler treatment up to 1000. Used soft water when I filled it. Water looks crystal clear.

I hooked up a mister mini. Installed in duct work after heat exchanger. Also hooked it up to my RO water so I wouldn't send softener water (un treated lime and salt) into duct work. Only turns on when fan runs. Needs at least 50psi water pressure to mist water or the water will pool in duct work won't vaporize in the air stream quick enough.

Yes they take a row of siding off saw holes and inject foam in the wall cavity plug the holes and put the siding back on. They can also do injection from inside the house if you don't want the siding messed with. Do a search on injection foam.

I had injection foam done to my 2 story farm house. What a difference. The walls were cold and wind was blowing through the electrical receptacles. Cost a lot. If you have it done just make sure they do everything, Above and below the doors and windows. They don't need to remove the old cellulose. If they tell u that, shop around.

I just had my 1911 2 story farm house injection foamed. What a difference. Wood usage dropped by 1/3. Down stairs was remodeled with fiberglass up stairs had blown in cellulose. Before the foam I could feel the cold walls and air blowing in through electrical outlets. Upstairs cellulose had settled. Cost was $3 square foot per wall space. No installation cost. Total was $4700. Brand was Applegate. Took the crew of 4 two days. One row of steel siding upstairs and downstairs above and below each window was removed. They will need to hook up to a 220 outlet and hot water. Something I wasn't told entill they showed up. Well worth it I think.
