General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: woodmaster
« on: February 19, 2014, 08:40:39 AM »
gentlemen, the point i am trying to get across is, if you like a
particular unit and live some Distance away a person should be cautious as to weather there will be extra costs involved such as shipping, travel time for a service call and so on.
As for me, working in my dads auto shop growing up, having licenses in two mechanical trades and working in a nuclear station, think i got the fan changing procedure covered..

honda, if a blower was to crap out or a door gasket did not seal properly if one of the stats did not function within the aloud warranty period is a tech going to drive the 10 plus hrs return to repair? I am fairly handy at this stuff but most if not all warranty work for the most part states that it needs to be done by a qualified tech or the warranty becomes void. i am not sure what the warranty's read with the odb's, but other large priced items i have bought state this in there warranty.
what will be the cost of delivery? sure i could go and get the unit but that is a whole day gone. i would be picking the unit up in the spring which is one of the busiest times of the year for me, time is money this time of the year. I am suree a self employed dealer would be thinking the same.

have been reading on OWB for a couple of month's now, will be putting one in this spring. really like the thought put into the bl-2840 and would buy it but nearest dealer is better than a five hr drive one way.
there is how ever a woodmaster dealer with in a half hour drive of me. i beleive the farm next door to me has a woodmaster so i will be going over to pick his brain. although as i sad i do like the thought put into the bl2840 dealer location is also a huge factor. so anybody burning with the woodmaster 4400 or its predecessor? looking for any input be it pos or neg on the 4400
Thanks

have not spoken to him in person, just through email but if i decied to go through and buy will ask if he has one in operation and have a look for sure. there is a northern stoker dealer with in half hr drive of me, this is why i asked about them, seem like a fairly heavy duty unit from web page but no real info on them other than their sales pitch. am for sure leaning towards the P&M though seems to be have been around for some time, this says alot as from what i read some of these manufactures are here today gone tomorow.

yep, there is a dealer closer as the crow fly's but they are on manitoulin island, two hr ride across on the ferry, price add's up fast when hauling a trailer. if one drives around the bay and comes in from the north to get on the island looking at about a 7 hr drive.

Anybody hear of the Northern Stoker brand of OWB? Good bad? Only info I can find on it is the normal sales pitch on their web page, so this would lead me to think that they have not been building that long. Manufacture is about 3 hrs away from me and the nearest P&M deal is 6. Thought I would try and dig up some reviews hear.
Thanks

hey guy's, thanks for responding,
Crow, glad you are enjoying the BL and that it is working well for you, will definitely have a look in the how to's, have looked at many of the posts in the other headings but have not made it there yet.
SlimJim, my plan is to bury the pipe in the spring when the ground is still damp just to see what kind of moisture i will be dealing with, although i am not thinking it will be that bad as my house is built on a gravel ridge which makes for great drainage. then build pad and wood storage early summer than boiler early fall. once again thanks for the suggestions and input.

Hi, new to the and new to the owb world so any suggestions would be welcome. After my last propane bill of 1300 dollars, which will roughly last me about 5 weeks I knew i had to look at a different heat sourse. I have always liked the thoughts of the owb but up untill now thought they would take a little to long to pay for its self, plus the kids are older now so will leave me more time for wood prosessng and the sort.
so hear is what i am thinking, and once again, any info would be great. I am located on the bruce pensula in ontario on the shores of lake huron so lots of wind comming in of the lake, old farm house with not the greatest of inslulation and lot of new glass { windowsand doors } house is roughly 2500 sqf, 800 sqf second floor 1200 main floor and 500 in a finished basement.
OWB
Looking at the new BL2840, did a btu calculation and house is calling for a 166,752 load, {sound right?} so would the BL2840 be enough of a unit?
Piping
looking at the rehau 1 1/4" insulated or the logstor 1". would prefer the logstor as a little cheaper but nearest dealer is 6 hrs away one way same dealer who has the P&M dealership. Rehau dealer a few min. away. thinking I would like to put the pipe in first, than build the pad and wood shed than place the stove, kind of break up the cost over the spring, summer and fall.
Side arm for DHW and a 20x20hx. for forcedair furnace. buried line would be 80 to 100 feet with maybe another 30 in the basement to tie every thing in, so full loop would be some where between 190 feet and 230 feet.
pump
have access to two grundfos 15-58's so could tandem them up if you guy's don't think one would be enough.
Have my own bush lot or can buy mill logs that did not make the grade for about 115 buck a bush cord. might bea nice option asone gets a little older.
Are there any start to finsh step by step diagrams or drawings on the net that anyone knows of ie vales needed pex fittings needed wiring ect ect
Now that the winter is about half over, would be intersted in hearing how the bl series are performing wood comsuption ect ect
Thanks
Mark
