Today in rainy Ohio, I really got the urge to start a fire. I had to tell myself that it was only going to last for a couple days, but man am I itching to start up the CB.

Thanks for getting back to me. I plan on insulating the whole hot water heater and doing a few other improvements after the first season.

yes I have a sidearm and after flipping on the water heater breaker last night we have hot water thismorning. I figure, if it was heating the whole boiler we probably wouldn't have had alot of hot. Just need to check the temp of the water in the boiler.

Well it's about that time. I decided to shut down for the season but have one question. When I turn the power back on for my hot water heater, should I be concerned that there is no way to isolate the water in the lines from the heat exchanger on the water heater? Will it ghost heat the water in the burner? Should there be shut off valves on the inlet and outlet of the exchanger or would it be enough to shut the valves off at the pump? This has been my first season heating so I have no experience in the matter. Thanks in advance, this has been a great site to learn from. The search feature has answered so many questions already.

General Discussion / Re: Anyone burning coal?

I also have a CB and was wondering if it would be safe to throw a few lumps in with wood. No shaker grates or blower. I live in coal country here in Ohio and it is everywhere. I'm not trying to replace wood, just wanted to know if I could use it in a pinch?
