atvalaska - your state is on my bucket list - I live up here in Maine- up the road a piece from Slimjim.
You and I have a lot in common, except I'm 5'8" 170 and tougher than a boiled owl. 32 years with the same gal.
Rumor has it I could be a little to the right of you. Retiring from teaching in June, and getting after that bucket list, after we get those 10000 square bales in the barn.Loved your pics- wish I had that window in my 1790 ole farm house. Looks like you could be living the dream.

Equipment / Re: Hydraulics???
« on: February 11, 2015, 07:07:56 AM »
most Kubota farm tractors have a power beyond port- I believe it is designated with a yellow or orange dot on the valve itself. Call the dealer - they will know. I have done this numerous times and have found the best way is to add an open center valve. If your hyd. pump is low volume, it might slow things up a bit.

If you do not have a port for a remote valve, here is the easiest way. Find the hose that is the return to the present valve, disconnect it and run it to a new valve body (extra hose will be needed), run the return hose from the new valve body to the primary valve .(into the port which you disconnected the hose from.)
KEY - Make sure your new valve body is an open centered one. If you are not using your new valve body, fluid will simply flow thru the new valve and back to the primary. If you are using your new valve, you will have pressure present- keep hose size the same as what you presently have on the RTV.
Obviously, you will need to run hoses from your new valve to the cylinder you want to control the plow with.

Plumbing / Plumbing up an EBW 300 Econoburn
« on: January 16, 2015, 03:15:57 AM »
Can the Econoburn EBW 300 be plumbed into a heat exchanger? I presently have an unpressurized outdoor boiler that is plumbed into a heat exchanger. It sits 250 ft from my house. I would like to put the EBW 300 40 ft from my oil boiler and run underground pex 40ft to my oil boiler. I can place the EBW in a shed that has a chimney in it. The EBW is a pressurized system.

Bucky1999,
I have this exact heater in my garage (36 x 26 with 12.6" ceiling) and it does the job. However - it is extremely loud with the fan set up it uses. You might be able to quiet it down by building something around it. I also have big ole cast iron rads that i primarily use for heat- I turn the unit on you are looking at when temps drop below -10.

Mlappin,
You absolutely made my day. You hit the nail on the head with the obit. I'm going to send the obit to the young bleeding heart liberals who I teach with. The newbies think the best way to improve education is to coddle our youth and give them 101 chances. They never even met common sense, let alone suspect he ever existed......... Scary where this country is headed........
This ole farmer keeps fighting the fight, but it gets harder when those in the trenches with you won't carry a gun.

Slim jim- what is your take so far on the 3444 series stove? Any issues? How does the wood consumption compare to a gasser?
