General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: HELP Boilover CB5036
« on: December 20, 2016, 01:36:11 PM »
Why would you throw moisture (snow) into the firebox? I know boiling over isn't ideal, but throwing water into a highly acidic environment cannot be good for the steel. I've accidentally left the door unlatched on my 6048 and when I noticed the temperature was high, I just turned on the blower on the furnace to pull out as much heat as I could.

I have a similar method as many of you here on my CB classic. Before I add wood; twice daily; I take a four pronged garden hoe to the ashes and scrape all the way to the bottom of the fire box to sift the ashes down and bring the coals up. Then once a month I take a garden rake and push the larger coals to the back of the furnace. I then use a flat shovel to scoop the ash into a galvanized trash can. I then pull the coals back to the front and throw wood on top. Coals are nice and red hot by the time I am done shoveling out the ash.

Would you need to do this when the stove is cold, or can you do it while the stove is in operation? By it, I mean replacing the rope with the silicone? How many tubes did it take for your door and what size door did you have?

Thanks.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Gonna miss her

Put the last wood in this morning. My pile is gone and I refuse to cut anymore for this year, need to start on next years supply. With highs in the 70's and lows only hitting 50, time to shut down anyway. Will suck as much heat out as possible before turning on the water heater. Will clean her up and get her ready for the summer this weekend.

Most folks that have bought a boiler are relaying on wood delivery, they have no truck or trailer just the promise the wood boiler will deliver the heat.

Why would you buy a boiler to then go buy wood? Everyone I know who owns a boiler cuts their own wood. Otherwise how would you save any money? Your entire argument here to burn whatever you want has no reasoning behind it. Burning "trash", tires etc. is exactly why people have a bad view of our heat source. I agree non-treated lumber is not trash. Please be responsible with your burning.

Central Boiler / Re: Differential settings for 6048

What benefit does a smaller or larger differential have? For example, in warmer weather would you want a longer or shorter differential? I never knew I had the option of changing this on my CB 6048 so I never paid attention to these discussion.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: All electric house. Thoughts?

I am only in my second season with my 6048 and I love it. Two years ago my highest electric bill was $500+ and last year my highest bill was $100 even. I love having HOT water and now I don't worry about changing the thermostat, always set at 74. Used to go between 68 and 72.

Plumbing / Re: Taco Pump Making Loud Growls

Thanks, it does appear to have been air in the lines from sitting all summer. The sound has gone away and no problems. Enjoying my nice hot water and forgot how good it smells outside with the boiler running.

Plumbing / Taco Pump Making Loud Growls
« on: October 04, 2014, 08:59:45 AM »
I just fired up my CentralBoiler last night and today the pump is off and on making growling noises. I have a back up pump, should I go ahead and change it out? Thanks
