General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / OWF Regulations
« on: August 14, 2014, 03:25:25 PM »
I purchased an OWF back in 2011 used it for one season and then sold my house and my stove went with it. I really liked my stove and had no complaints with it. I have just purchased another house and am again ready to purchase another outdoor unit. I have not followed this site for the past two years and would like to get some help as to what has been going on as far as talk on regulations. I live in Ohio and any help would be appreciated. I will try to get caught up on some of the previous post I have missed. Thanks in advance Matt

Sounds like Im doing the same as most of you, just open the door and jump back and wait for the smoke to clear. Then throw some wood in. I do like it best when there is still some wood left and the blower is on. Thanks for all the responses

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Smoke

I know it goes with the territory but what is everybody's trick to not smelling like smoke every time you fill your stove. Alot of it is my fault for facing the front of the stove due east. Don't mind it that bad but don't always like smelling like smoke when going to work or other places. Seems to be better if you can fill when the blower is running but with this mild weather it doesn't run that often. Wife doesn't really like my coat hanging in the house either, but I don't like going outside and putting on a cold coat either. Figured some of you guys had some tricks you've figured out over the years. Thanks

Earth Outdoor Wood Furnaces / Re: ordered mine
« on: January 01, 2012, 09:38:13 PM »
I got the woodsman 405 set up in late october and it has been burning ever since. Haven't had any issues other than the flap on the blower has got stuck a couple of times, and am still waiting for results from my water test. Of course though my blower is on the loading door, sounds like yours is different. I fill it before I go to work in the morning and then before I go to bed and it has worked great. They set mine up at 160 and fan comes on at 155.

Plumbing / Re: Problems with plate exchanger

So if I need to add a pump to this setup, what pump do I need? Also the guy who installed this for me says that this is how he has been doing them and it worked fine for everyone else.

Plumbing / Problems with plate exchanger
« on: October 27, 2011, 05:55:28 PM »
I just got my owb installed this past weekend, however cannot seem to get hot water for my dhw. I believe it is a 10 plate exchanger. It is before the hot water heater and has one 1" line coming from where the relief valve is and a 1" line coming from the drain in the tank. The plate exchanger is sitting on the floor.  I have been told you don't need a pump to circulate water through the plate exchanger it naturally will cycle through. Is this correct? I have to keep turning on the electric because its never hot and when it is it only last like five minutes. Thanks for the help

Im just south of Wilmington. The dealer is in Wilmington, his name is Eric Cockman his number is on their website. Mine should be hooked up this week. Where are you at in Ohio Candyman?

I just bought the Earth Woodsman 405. I haven't got the install complete yet, hopefully this week. I liked the price and seems to be good quality. I also have a local dealer.

Thanks for the info. just wanted to hear from someone that had one. I am probably gonna get the woodsman 405 here in the next couple of months. Do wish I lived close to the factory, but I do have a dealer close. Keep us posted if any problems arise

Oldsamdog, just wondering how you like it, anything you don't like? Which model did you get, how much are you heating with it, did you hook it up yourself. Thanks for any help

I have also been researching the earth owb, and am very interested in it. Would really like to find someone who has one though.
