I guess the way I'm thinking about is you should try it and let us know what we're missing. The only smokin I've done with mine is me and my clothes. I call it cologne.

Kommandokenny, I apologize that I used some wrong terminology. The guide that I'm referring to is called the drive link [after looking it up]. It rides down in the bar groove.
Sorry about that. Good luck

I have never broken a chain, but I have had a chain throw and it messed up the guides so it wouldn't move on the saw. The guide is what keeps the chain on the bar. Hard to see that their bad too, not very obvious.
Good luck

Roger I'm 53 with a worn out body, I'm not lazy I just try to use hydraulics more and more. If it keeps up the way the weather has been, maybe we'll be on our bikes early this year

Hi Roger, do you have forks for your tractor? If not you should consider getting some. You can lift the log to a comfortable height to cut and your back will be a lot Happier with you. Plus you'll never hit another rock! I speak from experience. Good luck

Well at least you found out what the problem was. It could have been a lot worse !!

I guess I'm lucky, I grew up on a farm, then drove truck for 35 years. One day getting out of the truck my ring got caught on the Nader bolt, only thing that saved the finger is I'm 5'11" and I was on my toes hanging by my finger. I've been extra careful every since. Good luck with the search.

Portage & Main / Re: Should I upgrade from a cb 6048. To a 3444

Sounds like a lot of wood to me too. I had a 6048 for 8 years and went through roughly 10-12 cord per year, and that was Sumer hot water also. I heat about 3400 sf. I did notice that if you stacked it from front to back you would just waste it as it went straight up the stack. I learned this when I had a friend load it while I was on vacation, came back and wondered where all my wood had gone! I went to the P+M 250 and usage dropped about 40 percent.

I work for a Fuel Company and 10 years ago when fuel prices were $2.40 I decided it was time to go with an OWB. I had a small wood boiler in the basement but it didn't burn that long, and the colder it was the more I was gone working. It just didn't work out, and at $6500 a year for fuel oil I am am very happy with to outside time that burning wood makes me do. I love it !!
