Brian indicated to me that it would not matter how you connected.

I went with the manual.

I draw from the bottom left side and return to the top far right side.

Have not added water since start up in October.

Open the ash pan door, give it about 30 seconds, and then open the fill door. Shouldn't be much smoke coming out the fill door. Do this even if the fan is running. Just remember to close the ash door when your finished.

Thanks for this information. Really made a difference.

Small motion sensor lights work well and are easy on batteries. Lee Valley or Amazon.

It isn't made in USA though so that shouldn't affect your price. You need to compare the exchange rate to euros (or DKK) since  Logstor is made in europe. Going by that, your price should have stayed about the same and ours should have gone down.

The US dollar is the world currency. As I understand it, everything is converted to US dollars from the currency it comes from, then converted to the currency of the country it goes to.
( ex.  EUR to US to Cdn. or Cdn to US to Peso)

Thanks for the help.

All these products seem to get good reviews.

Rehau and Thermopex are available to me. Will have to source Logstor.

I only want to do it once.

Logstor is clearly a good product, but more expensive. At 3 gpm over 100 feet it loses 1.5 degrees from a 180 degree set point. (From their spec sheet)

Thermopex claims less than 1 degree loss over 100 feet but doesn't state a set point.

Rehau insulpex ask you to contact the supplier.

Logstor appears to be the preferred choice but is there a real difference?

The increased size would bring more water to the house and back to the boiler but wouldn't the heat exchanger cause a restriction slowing the process?

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Domestic hot water

I had a check valve in the top of my electric hot water tank that caused my hot water to be very hot, cold and or tepid.

Removed the check valve and no issues since.

Logstor,  Flex pex,  Rehau insulpex  or  Thermopex.

Do they not all preform about the same?  Less than 2 degrees or less loss over 100 feet.
Is one more flexible and easier to work with than the other?

Is it not just a question of price and availability?

Thanks for the help Crow.

Seems like a logical explanation but I don't think that it should be happening.
Why wouldn't P & M insulate the ash pan door? .......or maybe they do, just not well enough.

Not using mine yet.
Do they all drip or just some of them?

These units are expensive and suppose to be well insulated.

Why would the ash door be dripping?

Manual says that the supply is on top and the return is on the bottom.

What difference would it make if the supply was on the bottom and the return on top?
Would it be less efficient, lower heat supplied to the house?

Any comments would be appreciated.

I've had good luck eliminating air with a spirovent.

Mentioned shark bite fittings to my portage and main dealer and he wasn't recommending them.

Said they tend to leak.

Plumbing / Re: How far can you bend rehau insulated pipe
« on: April 29, 2015, 07:22:03 AM »
My pipe showed no issues until heat was applied.

The pipe softens and then the potential for kinking increases.

Unless there is a real good reason for the extreme bend I would opt for gradual.
Consider using an elbow.

When my original boiler was installed the hot water line (rehaus) was in a rather large loop in the back of the boiler.

The pipe kinked causing a restriction in water flow. This caused the pump to really work.

Gentle curves are always friendlier. A ratchet strap doesn't make it sound to friendly.
