my tank in a tank build wkth a few questions
« on: April 26, 2013, 05:32:07 PM »

Great site with alot of great info. I've been planning this build for some time now. I've got a 500 gallon oil tank im going to use for my water tank and a 150 gallon tank that will be my firebox.  The flu will extend out the back of the firebox be in the water and exit thru the water tank.  There it will tee and go vertical that way I have a cleanout. The oil tank has alot of sludge inside of it. I was thinking about burning it out. My water tank aka firebox is rusty on the outside. How is everyone cleaning these tank so you don't end up with rusty water ? Is there some sort of paint or coating I could apply to the inside of the water tank and the outside of the water tank to help with keeping the water clean ?

Looks good!

I don't know what to tell you about cleaning the oil tank. We used to just let them burn off but there are 2 down-sides to that method; one is that it takes a fair amount of heat to get the stuff burning, and two is that once it gets burning you'll have a TON of black smoke!

What was the 150 gallon tank before you re-purposed it to the firebox? Propane tank?
