So my girlfriend and I bought our first home this past may. It came with a central boiler 4200?(I can get the exact model when I get home) what the heck is the maintenance on this thing? The home inspector said "keep her filled with water" that's it. So I checked the water level, it was in the acceptable range. Well I fired it up last Friday. Saturday morning it was at 200 degrees, (too hot?) I don't even know how to adjust it. Anyways it kept the house heated Saturday night. (Radiant heat). And on Sunday I checked the water level, and nothing. No water came up into the tube. So I shut her down raked the ashes out. And let her cool off. I'm thinking all of the water evaporated out over the weekend, the whole time it was on ove the weekend there was steam coming out of the vent ontop.

So I got home today and I discovered an air leak. It's on the back of the furnace the, 90 degree angle, where the chimney meets the furnace there is a hole rotted away the size of 3 quarters. As I understand the system has to be airtight, so it doesn't overheat. I don't know how I'm going to fix this, i wonder if this piece is made out of cast iron. Mabey I can try and weld it. Btw it is a cl4436 I can't seem to find any info online about it. There is no owners manual with it.

First of all, DON"T EVER HIRE THAT HOME INSPECTOR AGAIN!!!!!!  I'm not real good with Central Boiler as they are not what I sell but I would bet that if you go onto the thread here about it someone will chime in. They were a pretty forgiving stove so don't give up hope yet, it can be welded/ patched if it has not gone to far. Get to know a local CB dealer and ask him to show you how to run it and get an owners manual, try to find out who installed it and hire them to come back to help you understand the system, above all don't run it again until it is checked out by a knowledgable person. Where do you live? Good chance somebody on here lives close by.

Thanks for the reply man, I live in Brooklyn, Connecticut. So if there is a hole in the chimney that is deffinately an air leak problem? So that's where I would start repairing this thing. I filled it with water yesterday and it was deffinately low. I purchased some cb rust inhibitor online and a ph test kit.

U basically need to step back and go completely over it

I would probably drain it, and inspect door gaskets, have them replaced, make sure the damper is wooing correctly, have the holes repaired, I would then buy some treatment that tries to remove scale build up inside the boiler since it def sounds neglected,I would run that in there for a bit and then drain again, then I would go ahead and put in my boiler treatment and start using the stove

It sounds like you have several things that could need attention, correct those now before its to late and your without heat

An air leak aim chimney section to me maybe ain't what's causing the overheating, lets face it all chimneys are wide open, but it has to have a place down below to draw the air across the fire to overheat

Again I will say with your lack of knowledge, get a knowledgable person to go over it with you or you may be just wasting time and money, Contact CB and see if there is a local dealer or installer that could come and look it over and educate you on the operation of it, it will be money well spent
