Pump noise and furnace bubbling
« on: November 01, 2013, 09:52:25 AM »

I have a CB5036 that is starting its third winter  right now I am burning oak and maple. My question is, the bed of coals is so hot that the furnace is bubbling but the water temp says 175-185. Now i'm wondering if the bubbling is causing air which is making my grunfoss pump at the furnace squeal. I turned the pump off and then back on and the noise stopped. Do you think the pump may be on its way out? Thoughts?

I don't like the bubbling, can you check the actual water temp on the top of the boiler, is your temp guage accurate, OK central guys can you help here

I assume the electronic therm is accurate, but I will try to test the actual temp when it stops raining.Do you think the air/bubbling could cause the pump squeal? I haven't added any wood in the last 13 hours and the temp is still ok (185) and the bed of coals is about 8-10" thick. No bubbling.

Yes it could make the pump go bad but more importantly it can prematurely hurt your stove if it consistantly boils in one spot inthe unit

Mine does that also, I'm going to check the temp with a thermometer, mine sounds like air bubbles rising to the top. I'm full of water too.

.EXACTLY. This morning I did take out about 15 gallons of coals to lower the bed and only added 4 pieces of wood to the remaining coals. Im hoping that lowering the heat source will help. This is my first time burning good wood and I think I will have to adjust the amount of wood I add. 4 pieces of oak/maple is lasting 12-14 hours as opposed to poplar, pine, birch that I had been burning last year.We shall see.

P.s.  no squealing as of late
