needs more draft?
« on: January 07, 2015, 07:21:09 PM »

Hey guys I have been getting low temps lately, it seems like the Firefox is just smoldering, when I open the door it starts to flame right away. I added 4 feet is 8 inch black pipe, I have read a few things about adding chimney but for 20 bucks it worth a shot. Is it possible that it's starving for more air?  Thanks guys!

Is the damper working ok, is it getting stuck in the closed or partially closed position? Something blocking the airflow or fan going at the speed it should if it has one.

Yeah draft door is working just fine, I added 4 feet of chimney so we will see how that works.

Have you checked to see if the chimney is partially blocked?

We put two 3' sections on our Ridgewood and it helped immensely.  Got them at Menard's they are insulated as well.  Minus 11 here in southern Indiana this morning.  Filled the stove last night around 8:00 pm and just went out and had 181 degrees on the aquastat!! 70 degrees in the house and water is HOT.  Life is good...........vpm

Not to out-do Vincent Paul but I have two 3' sections and a 1' section ( to help clear the roof of the carport....ie woodshed), also from Menards, and I have no issues at all with draft.

A lot of people say not to, but I cracked that diverter plate on my stack just a little bit. Maybe 1/4 inch. That combined with 6ft of pipe and I dont have any issues with keeping my fire going or getting one started. I think the placement of my stove inhibits the draft, not the design or anything.
