Well it's about that time. I decided to shut down for the season but have one question. When I turn the power back on for my hot water heater, should I be concerned that there is no way to isolate the water in the lines from the heat exchanger on the water heater? Will it ghost heat the water in the burner? Should there be shut off valves on the inlet and outlet of the exchanger or would it be enough to shut the valves off at the pump? This has been my first season heating so I have no experience in the matter. Thanks in advance, this has been a great site to learn from. The search feature has answered so many questions already.

Do you have a sidearm on the side of the tank?

yes I have a sidearm and after flipping on the water heater breaker last night we have hot water thismorning. I figure, if it was heating the whole boiler we probably wouldn't have had alot of hot. Just need to check the temp of the water in the boiler.

If the pump is off there shouldn't be much heat if any moving. If the lines get hot out a ways you could close a valve but then you need to make sure you remember to open it next fall so you don't burn up the pump.

I would insulate the sidearm if it isn't already.

Thanks for getting back to me. I plan on insulating the whole hot water heater and doing a few other improvements after the first season.
