water to air heat exchanger - where does it go
« on: October 20, 2012, 08:41:56 AM »

Morning all , thanks in advance for helping a newbie out here , Im picking up my owb next week and finalizing my order and design for everything else , I am wanting to use a water to air exchanger for my house heat , I'm struggling with where to put this in my unit? , i am attaching pictures below

I have a Carrier split unit in my basement , 5 ton , heats my basement and 1st floor ,

at the top of my unit i have a plenum coming out that is 11x24 ish to the ductwork  , I don't t think that's big enough , on my next picture I opened it up, there is no room between the A coil and my squirell cage , underneath  I think I can fit a water to air ex changer in , it measures 22x24 but would have to sit directly underneath the A coil and above the return line that comes in on the left   or id have to mount  it vertically where the return comes in covering the round hole for the return duct work  ,

I need to do this right the first time so all suggestions/comments are welcome . no horselaughing!

I have a carrier unit also just a 3 ton unit and I put my exchanger below   the a-coil in the base, lost maybe the top 1"  of the  return. Heat works great and a/c cooled the house all summer no problems.

Mine is 18x16 and no issues with drain pan. Line in just does clear the pvc drain line. Put the biggest size that will slide in. I put 1x1 aluminum angle I got from hardware store on sides and slid it right in.

This is what mine looks like inside.......a little different than yours maybe but below the drip pan should be the same.Mine has the slot for the air filter right below the drip pan so I only had to cut the galvanized base that the return connects to. Takes some measuring but its pretty straight foward.
