Who is using a Sediment Strainer or Trapper? DO you find them worth the extra $150?? Thinking about adding one in this spring

They are a good idea when they are installed and maintained properly, trouble is that once they are installed, most home owners completely forget about them, Be sure to install a bypass around the filter so that as it plugs up the filter, water can flow around it without restriction.

Thanks Slim, makes sense. I was was thinking about putting one in this spring as i have to redo a bunch on my lines anyways bc of my late install in november. Are there any diagrams available for hooking one up with a bypass???

It's very simple really, put the filter in line with your current piping and install tees on each side of the filter that connect the loop around the filter, ball valves are recommended as well so that the cartridge can be changed without interruption of service

I have Wye-strainers on both sides of all FPHE (when I saw both sides; I mean OWB and closed loop radiant)

Every fall, as part of the maintanence before I fill the water levels back up, I flush some water (and other assorted JUNK) out of the strainers; then top off system and LIGHT THE FIRE
