A friend of mine stopped up today and we began talking about our wood burners...He has a Sequoia Outdoor Wood Burner - the gasification model.....He says he has to fix his fire every other day.  Sometimes when it is cold he will fix it once a day.......I have a Shaver and I am fixing it 3 times a day........

Makes me wonder, If I should have paid the extra money up front..... Now I should say that I am heating 2 houses, one garage and both of our hot water systems, but that really has me wondering???

The E 3300 and E 3400 were both great boilers! I just finished rebuilding another one here in my shop, the owner had left the ashes in the unit all summer every summer and allowed water to get into the top plate of the heat exchanger, it rotted that portion out. Two great things about those units were that they are simple/easy to work on with no proprietary parts and they are a sectional boiler that can be split in half, dry base on bottom and water tank on top, this allows for very easy welding repairs anyplace on the unit!

Slim how long did that rot take to happen in the tank?

7 years and it was not the tank but instead the flat portion of the heat exchanger, the firebox and water tank look great!

So they had a internal heat exchanger? How is that setup I'm not Fimiliar with them

It was a very simple design with a dry base and vertical heat exchanger that leads to a horizontal area right under the stack, this is where the issue was, it is a common problem if the stack does not get covered and ash is left in the boiler during the non heating season.

That's a shame what will you do different ?

I cut out the rusted area and replaced it with new 1/4 inch plate
