Solar gain
« on: February 27, 2015, 12:17:00 PM »

Can tell the sun is getting hotter, I opened some insulated curtains we have over a slider and the sun warmed the house( first floor) to 76. Thermometer says its 16 outside.

Opened the doors for some fresh relaxing air.

Coolidge - I've noticed the same thing.  The sun shining through the windows raises the inside temps from 70 degrees (thermostat setting) to 72 degrees and it's a balmy 20 degrees outside.  Plus, I had to into town earlier today and although the temps were approaching 20, I noticed a goodly amount of snow melt and that's fine with me.  Roger

Ditto, anywhere in the drive I scraped down to bare dirt with the plow is quickly melting around the edges. With the elevation of the sun temps gotta start to rise sooner or later.

u guys need thermostat sensors in your floors... my uponor stuff knows the air, floor and the outside temp ...the side of the house catching the sun  and the "dark side" still heating/keeping your feet warm!

Atv,     I don't need that fancy stuff, the only time I am in the house is for lunch, supper and bed.

First floor southern windows in our house are shaded by the porch, minimal southern windows on the second story, costs me a lot more to cool the house than heat it.

Solar gain works well in vehicles too. Nice to get into a nice warm truck for lunch yesterday. Didn't even start it up while I ate.
