You could do as I do here, I have 2 units piped together in parallel so that I can switch them out to try another any time I wish. The second boiler could simply be your storage tank.

Slim:  I kind of like this idea as I would most likely be storing the extra one right beside the one I am burning.  Which stove should I put in line first?  My current CB is 175 gallons and the 5648 is 385 gallons. I am thinking putting the bigger unit first would be better  (I don't really know why I think this, it just seems to make sense), or does it not matter?

Either way, I don't think it is going to make a lick of difference, I simply plumbed in Valving so I can shut off or start up and run either unit, the unit shut down simply bypasses the boiler not in use if it is warm enough that I'm not concerned about freeze up

What if its too cold to bypass one of the stoves?  I assumed that you had one boiler supply side going to the return side of the second boiler and the supply side of the second boiler going to the house, with the return from the house coming back to the first boiler.  This way either boiler could be fired, which would heat both boilers, the boiler that isn't being burned would simply be storage.  Would this work?

I am simply thinking out loud here, there may not be a benefit to doing this.  It may just be simpler to fill the extra boiler with water conditioner and let it sit until needed.

You are correct, I simply put a bypass and valve in as well because sometimes you may or may not want to send some heat to the storage boiler in order to keep it from freezing up
