Hoss 300sf fired up for the first time
« on: January 01, 2017, 08:20:32 AM »

If you look in my history on here you will see I had tried out a homemade unit a few years ago and it was a waste of wood and time.  It frustrated me and made me wonder if this was even a viable alternative.  Well, I sold it and went without trying again unit I got a great deal on a brand new hoss 300sf that was a display at a local hardware store in the middle of this summer.  I just got it hooked up on dec 16th and could not be happier.  Im getting 12-24 hour burn times with this mild weather right now.  Still learning best loading practices and that i don't have to always pack it full.  The proof is showing the electric bill here.

They’ll be out checking your electric meter before long, then you’ll get a lecture on how tampering with a meter is a felony, then they might even add a big ole nasty looking lock on it. Dealt with this years ago with our gas meter on the house, also dealt with it when we quit milking cows, electric bill went from a $1000 plus a month on the three phase to practically zero, couldn’t explain to the brain surgeons at Nipsco that milking, feeding, and keeping milk cold till pickup took a lot of juice.

flying53gmc.  Good luck with the OWB.  I know you'll love the heat and low cost of operating it.  Where are you from?  Roger

I live in Murfreesboro, TN so the winters are very mild compared to most of you but I have a poorly insulated A frame home and hated my heating bills.  I also have a lot of land with hardwoods on it and have always loved heating with wood in my fireplace insert.  Thought we would take it to the next level.
