I have access to Chicken Litter (wood shavings and manure mixture)  I was wondering if anyone has burned this in a OWF.  I'm going to do some experimenting with it but some more info would be appreciated if you have tried it.

It will burn it ,but with just shoveling it in loose you will use alot real fast.
The trick is to make it into pellets first then feeding it in.
I had thought of getting a pellet making machine ,and the pelleting my horses manure.
I know it has a high btu output.

Would the manure be hard on the steel?

If you were throwing it in there raw and letting it sit.Then yeah it wouldn't do it any good.Thats if it was wet.They only way to burn it will for it to be dry.
The manure and sawdust needs to be dry or you will be wasting btu's trying to dry it out and then burn it.Just like burning green wood.
I read a guy who was sifting manure from his bedding then drying it.Then running it through a pellet mill.
I don't know what the btu output is on chicken manure ,but i know horse manure is rather high.
Biggest issue is drying it and then storing it.
