Just got my x27, too and it works great on willow. It doesn't work that well on ash or elm, but that could be because they're still too wet?

Elm doesn't split good with anything but ash should split easy. Did you try a splitting maul on the same wood?

I'm not that good at tree identification so i thought it was either elm or ash. It could be just elm if it splits hard. I haven't tried my 16lb maul vs the x27 on the same wood yet. I will pick out a drier piece of wood 2maro and compare the two and post my results.

Yeah, me too. So I decided to get the speeco 22t log splitter. Timberwolf looked bad ass, but I only use the wood to heat my house so couldn't convince myself to spend that kinda coin. It has split everything I through at it so far. I think as with anything maintaining equipment and operation is key.

I have had something like this for several years. I had one with a fiberglass ax handle and it disappeared for a while so I bought this one http://www.lowes.com/pd_147592-302-1217000_0__?productId=3013823&Ntt=ax&pl=1&currentURL=%2Fpl__0__s%3FNtt%3Dax&facetInfo= My brother in law thought it was a joke the first time I brought it out but he hasn't gone back to a maul since. This is cheaper than the fiskars as well.

This doesn't seem to have very good reviews.  I would say that the extra $20 is probably worth it to go with the Fiskars.

I'm reviving an old thread but I bought the x27 last week and think it's a pretty good little splitter.

I can't say it's magical or even splits wood sitting by the truck like some people suggest but it does have
its own nitch.

It can go through most wood without knots easily. I busted 24" rounds of red oak in half (1) swing, pine
no prob but locust was an issue. If your wood is much longer than 2' or has knots it gets kind of hard but over
all I'm satisfied.

I normally don't miss my target but while giving this thing all I could I slammed the handle behind the head
hard and not even a scratch.

Just got mine for my birthday a couple of weeks ago. Tried it out on a piece of cottonwood I had and it split it but still had to work at it. But I couldn't even get my maul to stick in it. Just bounced off. The nice thing is it is about a third of the weight. I wasn't really tired after using it.
