Without knowing the history of the unit----I don't know if I would offer more then 1/3 the price of a new unit...Heck when I can purchase a 100% new off brand unit for $3,500-$4,000 without any suprises, I would'nt value a 3 year old unit with unknown problems very high.

Expecially if the house is a repo--or the unit was a badly maintained unit and froze---it could become a mess in a hurry!

Don't forget the expense of moving it also on short notice like a auction usually requires.

I think if I was at the auction a $1,500+/- offering would be pretty reasonable.

I guess i will have to figure how much it will cost to hook it up also. Will probaly be about 75 from house hooked into a heatpump system  but i would be doing all of the labor  thinking 1500.00

Like any owf you should look at firebox condition and over all condition of the furnace.
Is there heavy creosote buildup in firebox?
Is there any corrosion/severe pitting due to poor maintenance or burning practices?
Check to see if damper in door opens freely.
Door condition?
If looks clean and well maintained, $2,000-$2,500 could be a great buy on a 3 year old unit.
It it is in bad conditon, I would avoid it.
I would say your install parts estimate would be pretty close depending on water delivery line you use.
Good luck!

If it is in good condition I would guess it will sell for near $4000. If kind of beatup but not terrible probably closer to $3000. (not saying it is worth that, just what I am guessing they will get)

You never know about auction prices, I've seen them go for more than a new one sells for. Used furnaces are not cheep, I've sold a 4 year old stove for about 10% off new cost last year.

Oh yes, I would go with a new one but some people are all about the little bit they can save.
