indoor gasser woodgun 140
« on: February 25, 2014, 08:51:56 AM »

Ok have it narrowed down to a indoor gasser and so far the woodgun 140 seem's to be the one that would fit our need's.The only thing is the cost $9995.00 is hard to swallow plus the extras like the hood range and so on. Anything else we should be looking at or is this about the price range for this size unit.

May I ask why an indoor unit?  I may have that amount or less in my outdoor completely hooked up and running after all the fittings, pipe, hx's.  I do not have to put up with smoke, dirt, dust, mice, etc. entering with the wood supply.  And the most important is the insurance guy told me I would be cancelled if I put one inside.  I know nothing of pricing for any of the burners.  Just curious if outdoor is an option for your needs/wants.

Mine is considered a phase II gasifier.  It also is no longer in production, either.

Yes that is a lot of money for that unit. I hope that included an install package. Have you priced out the ceramics that need replacing after 10-20 cords. Does that include a pellet gun, domestic coil or oil back up? For that price you could get into a fully automated lambda control Tarm.

Have you looked at Tarm SP40, Econoburn 100-150 there's a used 150 for $3000, new $6995. Much simpler design and cheaper maintenance. Meets ASTM code requirements. Even a Tarm is less ($200 roughly) than that with an equipment package. a-stats x 2, circ , termovar, dump zone and automag control valve, chimney kit & temp probe, expansion tank, air separator, air vent, Aquastat temp probe wells x 2, one controls backup heat source when Tarm is not being used.

I mean the wood gun is a nice unit, but I didn't know they were that much unless there's more included.  If price is right I would have a wood gun any day. Keep in mind the ceramics are consumables and WG's are pricey and not the easiest to replace. Less than $200 for the common wear ceramics in both Tarm and Econoburn. What other units have you looked at.

Wow, that is interesting. It seems many WG owners ended up buying half that list to get theirs working like they wanted. Have you read this thread from WG owners , most bought from AHS

http://www.hearth.com/talk/threads/eshland-wood-gun-140-please-help-new-operator-with-zero-gassifer-experience.119547/

At those prices your into Garn territory by the time your done, or could have the top of the line Froling 30/40 lambda control and monitoring system.

If you want to do it for under $10k, Tarm Solo Plus  or Econoburn with all equipment included are your only real options, unless you get into some euro models,Effecta,  Vigas , EKO. Not many others have a good enough track record to justify this price range.  Effect a and Vigas have lambda and require storage, so that's a consideration.
I would figure long term costs as well, this is where it's hard to beat the Econoburn and Tarm. There are plenty of videos on youtube of all of these to pic thru the details.

Looking at the econoburn 150 right now. Might be a good  value and do the trick.. I called the wg factory in pa and was told dried pine would work fine in there stove. How is the econoburn for pine might have to load it a few more times since its fast to burn but its my prime sorce for wood. Also like the fact that the parts are not all electronic we like simple.
