Portage and Main
« on: February 26, 2014, 08:21:26 AM »

Does anyone know if the last turn of the scotch marine design on the portage and main boiler bl 28-40 would act as a smoker? Or would it be to hot? Does anyone  with this boiler know the stack temp?

Depending on cleanliness you may see it as low as 260 is but more commonly a bit higher and if dirty up to the 400's

You may try a search on "smoker" or something like that.  There was a thread several months ago that several guys said they've smoked some meat in their by-pass areas on their stoves.

ijon, I checked my temps in the last couple weeks at the back of the last pass before it enters the chimney and I was getting 160 degrees at idle and 520 degrees by the time it shut off.

I see an option available in the future, "heat your house while smoking your meat"

You don't do these things in Indiana because bad people throw animal remains, manure, paint, tires, asphalt, and coal in our OWBs....

....makes the meat too crunchy.  :P
