DUMB MOVE OF THE DAY
« on: December 28, 2016, 02:49:51 PM »

OK I can start this off with my cleaning out my boiler yesterday when the weather was good. I got my ash vac out and sucked out ash from the fire box of my Boiler. Didn't let it cool long enough and got some hot coals stuck in the wand. The inner is steel but the outer melts quite well. Gave up and shoveled it out from the back.

Not to make you feel bad but you know they make ash vacs for exactly that purpose ;D

You need to look at the bright side. At least you didn't put it in the garage with hot coals in it and burn your house down.  ;D

My dad has a central vac system I can remember at least a couple times growing up that he sucked up a hot ash around the wood stove and almost set the house ablaze. All is good

The Ivy League institution of higher education where I work used to have fireplaces in all of the dorm rooms.  Plus, every dorm had and perhaps still has a central vacuum system.  Many years ago, one day, a student needed to clean the fireplace of ash buildup.  So, using the superior intelligence that only an Ivy Leaguer can possess, he grabbed the hose to the central vac and proceed to clean the fireplace.  I guess it never occurred to him that coals that are of RED color are HOT!  Needless to say the ensuing fire caused a lot of damage not only to the vacuum system but the entire basement where the unit was housed.  Due to that event, the institution has closed off all of the fireplaces.

Doesn’t surprise me in the least, most of the time a college won’t give a degree out till all the common sense has been educated out of someone.

I have an uncle that is incredibly book smart, other than that he’s an idiot. Is an aerospace engineer, couldn’t find a job in his chosen field so worked for Ford for 6 or 7 years till he got in at Bell Helicopter, has also worked for Sikorsky helicopter. He can’t change a flat tire to save his life, it’s not that he won’t, he just can’t. Will sit on the side of the road and wait hours for Triple A to show up.

Years ago he came early for Christmas and stayed with grandma and grandpa for a few weeks, was gonna save em a ton of money as he started replacing all the incandescent's in the house with CFL’s. This is when they first came out and would set you back at least 30 bucks a pop. We were all standing around watching the grandchildren open presents and he brought up how many he’s had to replace already and he was going to write the company. He was trying to use em in touch lamps on low to save even more money, I looked at the package and read out loud “ DO NOT USE WITH DIMMER”, his reply was he wasn’t, they were touch lamps…….

Yes...common sense, a college degree do not mix.  When my co-worker sold his pickup to one of the prof's, about a month later it sprung a hydraulic leak and he asked the guy to fix it under warranty.  When the co-worker told him that the bill of sale showed he sold it in "as-is condition", and there is no warranty, the prof admitted he didn't know what that meant.   :bash:  Roger

This is an ash vac, it is all steel with a plastic over coat on the hose. And the air getting sucked in acted like a turbo waking up the coals, this melyted the outer coating some what.. My collage educated inlaw called the cable company because the phone service with them was out. I asked if he checked the breaker or GFCI if it had one and the answer was oh yes. They had the cable Co. schedule a repair ticket. My wife went over and reset the GFCI outlet and the phone worked :o

Not sure but she sure did get even, Christmas dinner was really good but it didn't last long with that crap they make you drink the night before the procedure!

I went through that earlier this year.  The worse part, other than the crap they make you take is the bloated feeling following the procedure.  Man I had enough gas to heat my house for a year.  I swear I went air born a couple of times. :)  Roger

slimjim, That certainly is a bad day, but, the results of that test could be worse. Hope all is well.

With the colon cancer that runs on both sides of the wife family our family doc is pushing her to start regular screenings now.

I’m just about laid up with bronchitis and a severe sinus infection that she’s given me for the second time this fall. I’m gonna schedule her colonoscopy and pay the techs to wear roto rooter uniforms…..
