Pump rebuild
« on: December 01, 2016, 10:15:30 AM »

Hey Guys,

A friend of mine had a pump go out of his Hardy H4.  It's a Taco pump.  He was wondering if there are rebuild kits available for them?  He bought a new one but would like to rebuild this one for a backup.

I have no idea but thought I'd ask on here.

Yes you can rebuild them but the cartridge is typically only $10-20 cheaper than a completely new circ.

Thanks slimjim!

Do you know where I could price one for him on the net?

I do very little business via the internet, I like to be able to look a man in the eye, expect a fair deal and get good quality / service with a personal hand shake.

Ebay is probably the cheapest. Do you know if you really need an 009? If if you don't have a lot of restriction you might be better off with a 0015 or 15-58 that is cheaper for the whole pump than repairing the 009.

Hardy uses a 009 stainless because they don't always use water treatment with the 304 stainless stove. So they match a stainless pump with it.  They also  ran a lot of four line 3/4 pex and needed a high head pump to push water in that line. If this is the case you may want to rebuild your pump. $121 on amazon.

If it is 3/4" pex then then 009 is probably the right pump.

Yes, I looked over the weekend.  It's a 009.  Yes, it's a Hardy with 3/4" lines.  He a good friend and I would like to rebuild it for him if it's not too difficult.  Is this what I need?

https://www.amazon.com/Taco-009-022RP-Circulator-Replacement-Cartridge/dp/B003EUVFR0/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1481576008&sr=8-4&keywords=taco+009+replacement+cartridge

Or here's one even cheaper on eBay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Taco-009-Bronze-Replace-Cartridge-For-Outdoor-Wood-Furnace-Maintenance-5800007-/141981966029?hash=item210ec8decd:g:Y~sAAOSw5HJXKkZn

Not sure what it says "Bronze".  It's a stainless pump.  Can anyone let me know on what is involved with doing the rebuild?

Thanks!

Is it a bronze or cast iron pump? It appears that they use a different cartridge.
This does not replace the electrical windings so you need to make sure they are good. It should be pretty easy to replace the cartridge. Just remove the 4 bolts that attach the heat and take apart. Then you should be able to pull out the bad cartridge and put in the new one.

I think the stainless and cast use the same cartridge. Either one looks to me to be stainless.
