Hi everyone,  I am a new member from north central Michigan.  I have had a woodmaster 4400 heavy duty stove for about 7 years or so and I live on ten acres of mixed hardwoods.  I actually had my acreage select cut and took the money from the timber and put towards my stove which then gave me about 50 tops to process and burn.  The tops were enough to last about two years or so.  Once I got my stove paid for I started buying my wood by the semi load and cutting dead or gull trees off my property to supplement my firewood supply.  It is a lot more convenient to have a semi load sitting next to the stove to process.  I figure fI save enough over propane that I can buy some wood.   This looks like a great and informative site.
Welcome to the site.....your boiler will be working this week.....im at -1f here in northern ny this morning....happy burning  This is a great web site for info and so on....

The wilo I have now is only a 1/15hp. Im looking at the grundfos 15/58 3 speed. I am also looking at the 011s. Not sure which one I want to get. Both seem real good
Dave,
I run grundfos 15-58 and like them I have had no issues with my set up they are only 2.5 years old...Kelly I leave them on speed 3....I am running them on 1 inch pex with no trouble. longest run I have is from boiler to house 75 feet one way...no issues.....
chariot-supply sell them for 86.99 free shipping on ebay out of ny

I set the thermostat at 70 just to see what it would do and it dropped to 67 in the house. I dont understand the temp differance no matter what temp i set it at. But I know it wont go past 72. Its not that cold outside, not cold enough to make the house chilly. Last yr at witu around the same temps outside it worked great to keep the house within 1 degree of what the thermostat was set at except on single digit days it would be 4 degrees off give or take a few more

dave,
maybe try a new thermostat or is it new? like a honey well digital one. maybe try another pump like you mentioned....its weird that the temp is off like that? maybe close valves on both sides of pumps (while motor is shut off) unbolt motor and check (inspect)make sure they are not clogged with junk? just an idea I have seen stuff plugging them so they wont flow like they should.....

okay had a LP boiler that went out, so have to replace my boiler. now this house did originally have a wood boiler, but removed and lines looped into heat exchanger. So looking to replace the lp with wood boiler , But as you all know its like shoppin for cars, chev, ford, dodge,   P&M, Heatmor, hawken, CB.. just to name a few. seems like they all have their issues from leaking to cleaning nightmare. now it might be because not many sold or this site doesn't have many P&M users but not seeing much on them, I know the 44 model I was quoted was around 9grand, which for a non gasser seemed high. but all their salesmen are at the same price. So with my 4300 Sq ft home and eventually my 3 1/2 car shop. So any help would be great,
Ever think about a indoor wood boiler? you could install in basement, shop or a grauge (can not spell). if you are interested look into www.nationalstoveworks.com they are a pressurized system with a 20 year non pro rated warranty....you can buy them in a insulated jacket or non insulated....I have tim the owners cell  number if you would like to talk to him directly. they are a lot of good boilers out there, but the main thing is how you keep up on the maintence cleaning them and so on....

Where do the flat plates mount on a water heater? From what I've found using a 20 plate now would be the same if not cheaper than a side arm. $130-190 for a side arm, 5"x12" 20 plate is $133 both from www.altheatsupply.com

they mount in the cold water supply line.  going into your hot water heater.

I am shopping around for a outdoor boiler. Leaning towards a Heatmor 200 and am wanting to do as much of the install as possible. I am mechanically inclined, I have detailed instructions on how to lay out all the plumbing, I've watched videos on soldering tips, now I'm shopping around for the parts such as, 1" pex from house to boiler, water to water heat exchanger, domestic water heater, shut off valves, pumps, etc. Is there a good web site that sells quality stuff for a good price?

out of ny is good to deal with and stock most everything you would need.

thats a good idea I will take your advice and do that. thanks.

I was going to say the same thing to soldier wires or if you crimp them use electrical grease to keep the contact along with helping it from wires corroding....

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: second area to heat
« on: November 23, 2013, 04:15:12 PM »
Hi- new to here- thanks everyone ----I have a Woodmaster 4400- I am going to run a second line to heat the nearby garage--can I do this with the OWF in operation? do I need a second circulating pump?  my guess is no, but just want to be sure  before ordering the Dragon Breath unit--

welcome to the site,
I would run 2 pumps for 2 reasons....one if your one pump goes now you are not circulating any water from boiler....and you will not be getting any heat out of it.2 is that the 2 pex lines may be to long for just one pump and wont flow enough and water return will be way below the hot side going out.... you can hook everything up like mentioned if you already have ball valves already installed on boiler lines that are not being used now.....if not you will have to shut it down and drain to screw the return in the bottom of the water tank.....

Slim, always nice to see like minded people around.

amen slim, the government is way way over paid for one......they all need a hell of a lot more common sence....... these people need to to be woke up and see this stuff first hand not just read about it and sign a new law or bill to get rid of it... do to epa regulations and so on....they all need to make what we do and try to live...then they will see how important our boilers really are to us.....

This past summer was spent building my home made boiler and I can honestly say I couldn't have spent my time better.  If it wasn't for all the post on here I could never have begun to attempt this project.  This is my first post on this site but I have spent countless hours researching on here.  Scott, you have some of the best advice and I thank you for posting your knowledge on here for people like me to learn.  This site is unbelievable for the amount of information a person can attain.  I live in Montana so the temps can get pretty cold.  I have had the boiler running for 6 weeks now and have not burned a bit of propane.  Last year my propane bill was over $3000 and from the looks of it this year it should be around the $0 mark.  I just want to thank all of you for that.  I am still trying to learn a few tricks of the thing but everything is working great.  The wife is happy and has the temps in the house at 73.  It is a little hot for me but a happy wife makes for a happy life.  Thanks again for all the help on this site, and it feals good to make the propane company mad

welcome to the site......I love hearing about home made boiler as well....post some pics in the home made forum on here and tell us about it.......I know you guys get cold there also......my uncle has ranches in graycliff, Mt ....
