Ayuh,..... When it's bitter cold out, Mine'll do that for the first few cycles, after I load it,...
I believe it's just the steam off the fresh wood, til it drys out, 'n starts to carbonize...
-
What kind of boiler you have?
It's def moisture out of the wood, but I've never seen it freeze as much as it was yesterday am, it was 10x that

The colder it is, the more mine does it....

I just googled "Ayuh" and now know what it means... Never seen that before....
BTW, I like your homemade boiler!

Ayuh,.... I'm a Maineiac in exile over here on the Sweetwater Seas,....
Thank you on the boiler project,...
My only regret is it took me 10 years longer than it should have, 'n I'm out well over $20,000.00 because I started it, 'n didn't finish it sooner...
Good thing is,... I ain't burnt Oil in over 3 years now... ;)

Has anyone else noticed there is a hand on the loading door? Thats definitely different bondo please explain whats this hand is all about. Door latch? :o
-
lol yeah I noticed that too. ayuh... Bondo, tell us how much Bondo you sniff on an average day...

Ayuh,..... It's the door Handle of course,...
This is gettin' Way off topic,... This is Scott7m's thread,... Not mine....
I'll try to dig up a bunch more photos of the build, 'n do a thread for myself...
lol yeah I noticed that too. ayuh... Bondo, tell us how much Bondo you sniff on an average day...
I Hate doin' bodywork with Bondo,.... though I do abit of Boat glassin'....
It's a conflagration of my name....
So I am not the only one who had to google "ayuh"! LOL
Ayuh,... This's usually the answer I offer, when questioned 'bout it...
'Google is yer friend, Google it"...
I was born, 'n raised in the northwestern most Downeast Maine... ;)

Don't worry about my thread lol no big deal

Ayuh,.... After yer Welcome last week, no way in 'ell I'm gonna hi-jack Yer thread....
Wow bondo,
Why are you on here throwing out such ignorant comments????
Do you have any facts to back up anything you say? Such as dead water? Or the comment "won't rust hardly as bad"
Wow is all I can say
-
Well since you brought it back up, still wanting to hear some proof of terms like "dead water".
Or how wont hardly rust as bad is a good thing? How about no rust?
Oh yea, and we can't forget that boiler treatment is snake oil
2 nails, 2 plastic cups, 2 drops of treatment, in a matter of days you'll see which nail is rusting away and which one looks like new. If you want you can even heat the water up first to make it dead

Ayuh,.... My boiler is run tied to the house boiler....
Same 12 psi system, same water....
When the system water is repeatedly heated, 'n pumped, dissolved gases are purged from the water...
Mine more so/ better than others, because I have a spiro-vent at the outlet of each boiler, 'n pump away from it...
The spiro-vent knocks out the dissolved gases even quicker... the low-pressure point caused by the pump helps even more,...
After a short time in the system, the water is pretty damn Dead,...
a fish sure as 'ell would die, as there's No dissolved Oxygen in it,...
No free Oxygen,.... No rust....
I concede that I wrote from My Own Experiences, 'n I didn't think of the fact that many or even most of you are runnin' Open systems....
I shoulda been more clear that, My system don't need any Snake Oils.... :)
I'll also note, I'm a single digit typist, 'n my words are short for their meanin's...
Ignorant Comments is/ was Over the Top,.... :o
Askin' 'bout My comments in the appropriate thread woulda been a 'ell of alot more civil don'tcha think,..?? ::)

Ok, u r right as far as a closed system under pressure, that makes a huge difference, but I would say 98% of members here are open systems. I later thought maybe you thought we were all pressurized...
What temps do you run your boiler at?
-
I run the same water with no exchangers in an open system, the pressure for the indoor boiler is created by restricting the(return valve) flow being forced by the taco 009 pushing water from the outdoor boiler thru the inside furnace. The return valve is after the inside boiler and when it is open all the way i have no pressure at the inside boiler. I restrict it until I have 12psi inside. I use corrosion inhibiter and the water is always nice and clear. So far the taco 009 has lasted almost five years providing 12psi to the inside boiler while running 24/7. Happy that I never spent the money on exchangers. Also happy I put inhibiter thru my indoor furnace as the original water was from my well unfiltered, and full of iron. So far all works great.

Ayuh,.... Draft opens at 'bout 175°, 'n closes at 'bout 195°....
It'll sometimes heat soak as it slows down, up to 210° or abit higher...
Depends on how hard the house is callin' for heat... 'n how Ragin' the fire was,...
Natural draft, usually, got a fan if lightin' a big load, 'n not enough coals...
Fan is powered off the draft door motor circuit...
Pumps are on their own aqua-stats...
The pump-away starts at 'bout 170°, 'n a recirculator circuit kinks on if the house return water drops below 'bout 150°...
Don't want that cold water, too cold...
Best havin' that condensation drippin' off the smoke stack, insteada clingin' on the firebox...
I like it Best when the oil boiler in the cellar is sittin' at 190°,...
It makes for the nicest, hottest, longest showers I've ever had,.... ;)
DHW comes from the in-boiler coil...
-
OK I gotta say I love your build Bondo and the hand handle is too cool LOL
-
Good move on keeping those return temps up, all boilers have primary and secondary loops for that very reason you stated, it's just hard to get folks to comprehend that in this part of the industry. There is to many good ol boys building boilers and selling them who know little about how they work. We are constantly seeing folks sold the wrong parts for the wrong applications and things are rarely sized right.
How'd you make ur handle?

Ayuh,.... It's a latex glove mold from an ole factory in S.Carolina....
I grabbed 'bout 50 of 'em when I found 'em...
I just welded a block of aluminum to it, to attach it to the latch...
They also make pretty darn Cool tail lights on a trailer,...

Or,... 3rd brake lights on my pickup,....

I've since that picture built a new mount. so they're center mounted, pointin' outward...
