Plumbing / this could really suck
« on: November 10, 2013, 09:23:34 AM »
New home construction installed pex loops through garage floor and basement floor pressure tested both zones before concrete was poured held fine. after concrete was poured will not hold pressure. Thinking it could be due to my manifold I made with pex fittings and such, my queston is, is there more pressure on pipe now that is in concrete that it would hold before the pour and now it wont, I find it hard to beleive they could have damaged pipe. Thanks for any input. Jared

slimJim, plan is to pressurize garage and basement floor tubes with antifreeze. when I had my walls poured I had them put a sleave in the wall to the basement then when I ran my lines in the garage I ran all 8 (4loops) through the wall and down into the basement. My issue is now how do I hook them to a manifold coming overhead

Plumbing / The time is just about here

Ok so here I am again but much closer to having a new heated home by an OWB boiler was dropped of last week a CB 5036, This is what I have so far, a basement w/o a floor hoping this week to be poured I do though have my vapor barrier, insulation and pex run as this is the same for the garage. Here is my queston (S)

I have 5 loops in the basement that run up the wall in the mechanical room, then I have 4 loops in the garage that run down the wall through a stub from the garage that comes directly over r the top of the basemet loops, this is the way the plumber said I should run it, now I was going to use Watts manifolds with the gauges and what you have in the but they only have  manifolds that enter from the bottom, so I would assume I would have to build my own. Not a big deal I just am not 100% sure of what all needs to be into it I was hoping someone could draw me a picture of what this manifold should consist of.

And since were on this topic I was hoping someone could also draw me a picture of how my system should get tied all together, I  have most the componets but again not sure what order they should go. It is a prssureized system that is headed with a plate exchanger. I would like to have the garage and the basement on separate zones obviously.  Thanks to any help I can get I seem to work well with pictures because this is till very new to me..  Jared

I bought the 1/2 pex from menards and with that you can send to have a diagrahm of how you should run the pipe (very helpfull). They are 250 runs or just shy of it.  In the garage I have 4 loops. and in the basement I have 5 loops.  My queston is though I plan on having a manifold in the garage and one in the basement, As of right now this is my plan:

The setup:
first  thing I will havein the lines entering the house is obviously the pump then the thermostatic valve.
second  it would run through the water to water plate heat exchanger (for the pressurized radiant floor system)
then it will run through the hot water heater and then furnace.

How does that sound

Garage is attached and also will have radiant floor heat that I will tie into the OWB. Jared

Great info guys, here is a couple questions I have regarding the pressurized side of the system.

1 Do I tie the heat exchanger  for the pressurized system in before or after the hot water heater/Furnace

2 How do I control the two zones for the radiant floor heat(pressurized) system?

3 What components do I need on the pressurized system, I know I will need and expansion tank, and probably a pump and manifolds for the radiant.

4 My radiant 1/2 floor lines will becoming through the wall above the manifolds because of the basement how will that get plumbed into the manifold?

RSi, Ok got it, how do I determine how large of a water to water heat exchanger I should use?

I like the idea ( and understand ) why you would want  to isolated the radiant from the rest but how do you isolate the two systems (radiant and furnace/water heater) and how do you pressurize it? isn't it considered pressurized already. sorry for the stupid questions.  jared

Ok great thinking scott.... would it be to much of me to ask for a simple diagram of what you were thinking?

Plumbing / Am I the only one confused
« on: September 07, 2013, 01:12:18 PM »
In the beginning stages of a new home construction, just picked up the underground pex from the boiler to the house (Buying a central boiler 5036) I have seen a bunch of diagram's on how I should set my system up but they are all different. I plan on having help from a local plumber when it gets time to do the hook ups but any advise on how the system should lay out would be appreciated.

Will have to radiant floor zones (Garage and basement)
Will be hooking system up with the furnace and the hot water heater (Propane both)

I know I will need a pump at the furnace then go to a themostatic valve, Do I go right to the hot water heater the furnace and then the manifolds for  the radiant heat(s). Will I need a second pump (zoning)?

Again any help would be welcome I am hoping the plumber will know more about this than I do but I want to at least have a decent knowledge about its for future repairs and adj. Thanks Jared from WI

Ok so I am building a new home in South eastern WI, I am installing a CB 5036 boiler. I am looking for any suggestions on how much area around my boiler I should prepare for wood. my plan is to put in a 20x20 pad next to the boiler I was thinking I would start with gravel and then finish it off with Recycle asphalt compacted the following year. My plan was to bury the in and out line about 2-3 feet should I go deeper, I am running water so I will be deeper? (using CB insulated line) Any advise on this would be great Thanks jared

Thanks Franky1, very intresting!!!,

I am learing a little everytime I log on the computer. I found a dealer just north of me with American Royal he basically told me the model 7300B I could get for 4k, Looking around at the Central boilers (whitch I was planning on going with till I got quotes) I ilke the price but a bit afraid of the quality=price. Any suggestions?
