Heatmor / Second burn tubes in the exchanger of a 200ss
« on: February 09, 2015, 03:54:31 AM »
Has any one thought of doing this. Will the gasses ignite along the tubes or will the gasses not be hot enough to ignite. I was thinking of cutting slots in the cleanout plate in the back and running the tubes in the upper corners of the exchanger area. Just wondering if it will work. bad thing I will have no way of knowing if its working once I put the plate on there is no way to tell. jason

Heatmor / heat exchanger baffles
« on: April 19, 2014, 06:11:19 AM »
I have decided to add some baffles to the heat exchanger this summer to see if I can make the smoke more efficient before leaving the stove. I really want to add second burn tubes at the top of the exchanger to if I can. I will probably have to build a new plate for the back  of the stove to do that.  I just don't know if the gasses would be hot enough to burn once mixed with the air from the tubes. Is there a certain temp that need to be met for gasses to ignite. It seems to work in a wood stove but that is in the main firebox im not sure if it would work in the upper heat exchanger.

If not hopefully the baffle will slow the gasses down enough to make them transfer more heat.

Slim do you think that the refractory will hold together over the years for a boiler like the heiss.

Heissheaters.com. heiss phone # 1-616-551-0176

I think that is pretty awesome of you to do that slim. I tried to call them Friday and got no answer. But you prob can do a better job at it them me anyhow and know a lot more about boiler the I do. Maybe it will all work out.

I agree also. It would be really awesome to have a way for companies to measure how much heat a boiler will actually extract from the fire at full burn. I know that gasification stoves are the best at this but im sure some are better then others.

I agree build quality is a big part and I also agree that warrenty is only as good as the company that issues it. There can be a lot of loophole in warrentys. Im trying to look at whatever I can in person to see what I like the best. If I had the money a garn really sounds kind of like a good idea but they are well out of my price range I think.

Im give you a ring about 10 slim.

I agree slim. Informer seemed to be a honest guy but you would have to talk to him to get the whole story. But I also haven't talked to heiss to get their story which I will do and give them a chance to explain their side. I have heard of the boilers leaking from leakes where the copper was soldered together instead of running a complete piece of rolled soft copper. but I would still like to hear heiss side of the story. It honestly seems like a great concept maybe just needs refind I don't know.

well I talked to informer on the phone today. I sounds like he really got a raw deal from heiss. Granted I haven't heard the side of the story from heiss. but I think im going to call and ask a few real good questions about service and most importantly warrenty. portage and main is gaining ground quick.

I agree with you 100 lamont. Im looking for the same thing. Like this year we had a really bad winter and I had to burn green wood. I can now burn dead standing ash but the option to burn green is a big contributor. I have heard gasifiers burn half the wood but it also takes a lot more time to split the wood small to get proper season and burn. Im trying mybest to get educated and see what is the best so maybe I can have my cake and eat it to if it works out that way.

Equipment / Re: Jonsered chainsaws

Jonsered and husqarna are owned by electro lux. Most all the saws has a same counterpart red and orange with different badges. But not all are identical. I think that all companies makes good and bad items. stihl  jonsered and Husqvarna. The pro models are the ones to go for and find a saw that is the weight and bar length you are looking for.
