Pre heated air for draft intake??
« on: January 07, 2012, 10:56:55 PM »

Would a OWB  burn more efficiently if the air let in by the draft damper was pre heated somehow?  Possibly heated by the stack gas?

Just a thought,  It comes from 33 years working in a coal fired power plant.

We do the same thing where I work heated forced draft air means we dont have to burn as much fuel as we would with Ambeint air temp. :)

This is interesting, I opened the rear door of my OWB and felt a good amount of heat in that small space escape out.  I wondered if I was losing heat out of my OWB but maybe it was designed this way to sort of preheat the draft air?

yoder or scott have any input on this?

Yea preheated air should give you more efficiency.   Garn furnaces do this but most do not.
