Was wondering if anyone else does this, maybe some other boilers have it built-in? I hooked up an aqua stat on my return line at the OWB to shut off the draft fan when the water temp falls. This has saved me on many an occasion from having to refire my boiler from scratch. If for whatever reason I do not have enough wood burning to sustain the setpoint temperature the aqua stat shuts down the fan and the coals smolder for long periods of time, when I throw more wood on then I throw a bypass switch and the fan fires up and the wood catches without the hassle of restarting a fire. There is also an added benefit because when the wood is running out the fan forces cold air through the boiler and cools the boiler water faster than it would without the fan.
This has worked well for me for 8 years, just have to remember to flip the bypass switch after the temp comes back up, this can be the hard part!
