Insulate cold air return

My hx/air is installed on the cold air return side.

Would there be any benefit in insulating the cold air return that extends past the hx/air and to the furnace?

I have about 6 to 7 feet between the hx/air and the electric furnace.

Also, I saw a post on this forum that stated that it is not recommended to set your temp (I am assuming boiler temp) above 175 if you have the hx/air installed on the cold air return (potential damage to wiring/other parts).

Appreciate any thoughts!

Insulating it couldn't hurt, I run mine at 170 and the heat exchanger is in the return line. Last year was my first year but no problems.

I have my hx in my cold air return, about 1 foot away from the furnace filter and run my boiler at 180 - 185.  I read the same about damage to components.  Last year was my first year and no visible problems.  nothing sounds funny or acts different than running on the propane.  I am a proponent of insulating everything, although I do not.  I fail to see the problems with wrapping the return and sealing the seams.  Even though the wood heat is cheap, no sense in wasting any btu's.

I'm also a big fan of insulating everything as well.  I think the more we can protect our system from outside air and debris the better.  Has anyone noticed their system burning cleaner after insulating?  Does anyone know where to find discount filters?
