Questions about tax credit...
« on: November 24, 2011, 06:24:46 AM »

Is there a tax credit still available for an OWB? Which OWBs are certified for this? Thanks in advance.

That is a very sketchy gray area and there are companies claiming to have passed EPA testing and have not.  The tax credit this year is 300 dollars, I placed a list on the general area of units that have passed EPA testing.

Yeah, unfortunately for me I don't qualify. But no matter, I'm still saving money!

I don't think there is any gray area, either you are certified by a real laboratory or you are not.  Companies like shaver and others realize the chances of being audited are slim and they are willing to take a chance and lie about their efficiency ratings. If they are willing to lie about this what else would they be willing to falsify? My advice to anyone looking to buy an outdoor furnace is to look only at the companies who are going about the process in a legit way. Buy a product from a company that is operating illegally, chances are you are going to get screwed in the long run. Just my opinion.

I didn't mean gray area as it seems.  I simply meant there was a lot of false information out there, yet, people were still getting tax credits and the companies were just praying not to be checked.  like you say though.  If there that sneaky how could you trust them

Thanks Scott.....that helps. I understand more about this now and see that there are some that do get the credit but probably do not actually qualify. Thanks again!
