NOIDS....as in sol-e
« on: November 27, 2011, 06:39:22 PM »

Okay guys...here I am again.  I've been thru the archives on this site, well at least on the "electronics" page.  Just is case the larger blower motor shows up tomorrow on my front door step( I doubt it) I need to figure out how to wire the solenoid on the auto damper to the blower motor.  Oh, in case any one has forgotten, I have the Shaver 250 F.O.R.D.

I'm going to have to take a good close look as to where to mount the solenoid.  Right now it's on a piece of junk steel that Shaver sent to me. I asked them via email if they could send me the instructions for connecting the solenoid to the blower motor and their reply was, "sorry we do not send any instructions out with the solenoids."  EXCUSE ME???? :bash:

So I'm thinking that I'm going to have to mount the solenoid directly on to the rear inside panel of the OWB.  But I still need to know and understand what wire goes to what/where?  I re-wired my t-bucket a few months ago and that was much easier because ALL the wires were marked every four inches and I had specific instructions on how to wire the car.

Anyway, just as before I thank whomever in advance for their assistance.  I'll concern myself with wiring the Ranco at a later time...actually "I might be able to figure that one out myself."

We wire ours like you did, but we put the switch on the hot lead going to the aquastat as per our local retired electrician.

Just to clarify what I was trying to say- our electrician said to never switch a ground. If you turn the switch off(using the ground side), you still have electricity going to the aquastat, and if you inadvertently happen to touch the ground wire to the solonoid or the aquastat(they are one and the same) while you are grounded(hand on the boiler), you are going to get a poke. I have been there and done that way more often than I care admit to. I hate dealing with electricity, and the more careful I try to be, the more I usually often I get nailed.

i have power coming to a regular light switch (so i can shut off the thing for the summer or shut if off when i want to add fuel..if the blower is going when i add fuel and open the door it really gets burning)  from this switch the black (hot) goes to a normally closed high limit switch then to the aquastat and then to a junction box to both the blacks from the solenoid and the fan..the white goes from the light switch to the junction box to both the whites from the solenoid and the fan.

the high limit is in case the aquastat fails and does not open when the set temp is reached, the high limit will open (cut power) at 190 degrees and will not reset (close to allow power to move to the system again) until the water cools to 150

Thanks guys...these responses have answered my questions ...and beeman, thanks for the schematic.  I have to get cracking on this even if I don't have that bigger blower.  Need to get my fire under control and slow down the burning of wood.  At this rate, I'll have to buy wood to get me through to March.   :bash:

LOL sorry beeman could not help myself, did your package arrive today lugnut?

No sir it did not.  I called Shaver and again that was a joke.  How on earth does that company stay in business????  I got "Don" again when I called.  He "supposedly" transferred my call to "Melba" but then I got dropped.  I don't know how many times I called back within 5 minutes!  The last time I called, I decided to use my home phone, figuring they weren't answering the cell phone number because they knew it was me.  the next voice I heard was..."yes Charles we are trying to find out what happened to your box."  Melba was on the phone so they connected me with a lady known as Ruth Ann.  she was very pleasant to talk with and I can just imagine what she was thinking as I went on ranting.....

She and I had a very long conversation.  I told her that Melba and don said last Wednesday that they would "overnite" the larger blower motor.  Well I knew I wouldn't get it on Thursday because of the holiday, but then nothing appeared Friday or Saturday or even yesterday...I WAS PISSED!!!!

If you have ANY reason to call Shaver, do NOT...I repeat do NOT ask to speak with Don...or if you get Don, ask for his supervisor!!  YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Anyway, Ruth Ann explained to me that they have a contract with UPS and that the guy who  picks up hadn't been there since last Wednesday...and that she would call me today and let me know the status on the box...and if she had to, she'd take it to the Post office herself.  Now I don't know if I've been played a sucker again as she sounded more sincere than any of those boneheads that work there and I WILL give her the benefit of doubt.

I had the blower off the rear of the furnace yesterday...what a joke!  I'll leave it there for now.  Will  have questions on another post later this evening.  This company has NO CLUE what the two words "QUALITY CONTROL" means.

Beeman...thanks for the laugh (with you ...NOT at you)  Been there and done that.  In fact I'm betting many have been there, but won't admit it because it just sounds silly.  :-)

And the saga continues......

Gary,

Ruth Ann from Shaver called this morning and left a message on my home phone that the blower motor left their shop via UPS and that I should get it in a couple days.

I did remove the smaller motor yesterday as I was going to install the damper, but after getting it apart and noticing that the flange that is welded to the draft pipe is NOT even perpendicular to the rear facing of the furnace!!  give me a fricking break!  It's kind of angled off to the right a bit...so much so that I will have to slot the holes in the flange just to get it to fit.

I was looking at that flange yesterday and wondering how I can make it work for me...in other words, be able to mount the blower with the squirrel cage pointing up.  If there were a way to make a thicker collar to bolt onto the flange and drill different holes for the blower.  Wish I knew how to draw on this computer.

HAVE to get that damper on this week .....temps Tuesday night got down to 20.  I know I'm using lots of wood and sure wish it would stop....need to make it through to at least March.

Unless they request for the smaller blower motor back, it stays with me....course I could give them the same kind of service they've given me over this damn motor.  :-)
