The Clean out cap on chimny
« on: December 30, 2011, 07:48:50 PM »

I went on and cleaned the boiler yesterday 12/29/2011 and cleaned the chimney. I found when I took the cover off, that the inner linner has separated from the outer liner I could see the insulating  stuff it looked like concrete.  This is on the horizontal piece of chimny coming out of the back of the boiler, I dont think this has alway's been this way. :-\

How old is your unit?

I checked mine on Dec 6th just to see what I could see. This while the unit was loaded with wood (but not in a burn mode). I stood back thinking I would get a big blast of hot air. But not the case, I could stick my arm in almost into the back of the boiler and sweep out the ash dust with my bare hand that had made it into the pipe. (NO creosote)

Have you ever let your boiler go higher than normal setting? Trying to figure if this is normal wear and tear.

Ive had the water temp hit 214 degree's it sounded like a tea kettle, that goes back to issue's I believe with the door being warped.  If you get a chance see if when you open the door if the top edge is straight or bowed out on either end. This is where the rope gasket set's. :bash:

No warped door here. I see see white rope all the way around where the door makes contact. About once a week, right before a burn cycle, I load our paper and cardboard collected through the week. And then wait for the burn cycle. Talk about a smokey burn cycle!  Luckily I live in no where land and no one saw it.  Lol

Would a new rope help seal the door better?

Went out last night to load the boiler it was 196 degree's, Im going to caulk that area on the chimney today where the clean out is.  This morning it was where it should be 176 degree's at a set point  of 170, and it still had some wood in it. :)
