Not enough dhw ?

Hello all I have a shaver 165 owb that i purchased new in 2011 I had a new 50gal hotwater tank installed when I got furnace installed  question  I run out of hotwater  if I run the hot water for say 10-15 min I run out is this normal I thought it was not supposed to run out. Any ideas?

Do you have a coil in the boiler, a plate heat exchanger or a side arm? How is it connected.

Welcome to the site tpm, as RSI said we need to know how your water is heated and hooked up. You should not run out of hot water ever while the stove is burning.

Just got our 165 online in October and have never run out of hot water.   We're using the coil in the boiler and a circulating pump for an 80 gallon hot water tank.

If it is piped right you should not run out of DHW as long as boiler is running. Like has already been posted need info on how it is piped.

TPM...first off...WELCOME!!  Like the guys say, we need to know if you are running the coils in the rear of the Shaver?  Or do you have a side arm on the DHW?  Or the brazed plates?  This would be the first info required. 

I made a mistake when first firing up my Shaver 250 back in October...said the hell with the utility companies and unplugged my 53 gallon DHW with power vent.  Little did I know that when the fire goes out in the OWB...so does the heat in the DHW.  so I sheepishly plugged it back in...but the good news is that it will NOT fire unless the temps drop and it calls for heat.  This way Mama is NOT an unhappy camper in the morning when she wants to take a shower.

I have the brazed plate (30 plates) unit on  my DHW and it works like a champ.  I chose this over the coils in the furnace or the side arm because I wanted the quicker recovery time.

So tell us all about what you have on your unit for the hot water?  Like Joe Friday used to say in Dragnet..."facts...we need all the facts."

Thanks for the help guys I have a coil in the furnance that supplies the hot water and the installer mounted the pump on top of the hotwater tank.

Im not sure how it is hooked up the man that hooked it up has sold and installed the hardy owb for 25 years dont know if they hook up differnt or not.

My first guess would be look at the pump; is it a three speed pump? If so, make sure its on the slowest speed. The water needs time to 'heat up' as it moves through the tank.

If you take a look at it, where are the pipes connected? Can you take a picture of it and post it here?

i dont have a set up like yours but i believe the way to do it per manufactures instructions is put a tee in your drain of your hot water tank..use this to feed the cold line of your coil going to the OWB now on your return from the OWB (your hot water coming back from your OWB) put a tee in the line of your hot water tank where the pop up valve (safety) is, but somewhere before this install your pump for circulating the coil.

some folks hook the pump to the water tanks lower thermostat and shut the pump on and off to save electricity but in you dont mine the little extra it costs to run the pump i don't see why you need to shut it off?

Is that pumping into the tank or out? Are you sure water is flowing and it isn't air locked? What is controlling the pump? When the pump is running is one of the pipes noticeably hotter than the other?
Is that a cast iron pump? Usually bronze pumps are used on domestic water. (that won't make a difference for water running out though)
