Yes Bill that 4200 would do more than mine, I'd get up half way thru the night to reload it in the basement then I'd also be running the propane fireplace on the first floor.  Can't afford the air to air heat pump at $0.13.kwh.  I still run the Quad in the basement when my sweetheart wants it really warm (not enough air outlets for FHA system yet).

Love the Bentley and Eggs Benedict quote,  they are a little high brow compared to this site.  With some of the discussions about aging wood, splitiing and measuring moisture content youd swear they were talking about fine wine, not wood.

To each his own, I consider my wood as free and my time as forced exercise, my payback was much quicker with a non gassifier, maybe in a few years I'll wish otherwise but  for now I'm happy with the simplicity.

If you buy your wood, split and aged to <20% moisture, go to the gym 3x per week, have no trees on your land and close upity neighbors than it is a no brainer I guess.  That is why Bentley and Chevy are both in business I guess.

Rhugg,

AMEN to Bentley's and Chevy's!!  I suppose I'd work for either.

But us folks can appreciate any form of supplemental heat.  As stated, by me, a few times if I could do it again, I'd go conventional wood furnace.  If forced by John Law, gassifier.  Saving a buck is important.  And this is one way to do it.

I live here in NEPA, and coal is still King!  Price is still fair for a ton of the good stuff.  For anyone interested, check out an EFM Stoker.  Made here in Pa and bomb proof!  I remember filling Grandma's 55 gal drum hopper w/rice.  Lasted near a week for her small home.  Made in Emmaus Pa, still.  Parts available for all the years ever made still, from factory.  Should probably start a new thread on these amazing boilers, just so the rest of you will know.  Coal is still alive here in my neck of the woods.  Me, well I will continue just burning "the woods".

Those boilers are phenominal!!   If you ever run across one, take care to remove and parts are always available.  EFM Stokers.  If, and when you can't burn wood, this is it.  If you think it's junk, call me.
