Newbie Looking to Buy!
« on: August 13, 2012, 11:48:24 AM »

New to the site and my first post! I built my house a year ago and have an endless amount of wood for free so decided I didn't want to pay $3000 a year on propane. My house is just under 3000 sq ft that I will heat and have a 30x40 pole barn that I may insulate and heat someday.  I am looking at buying either the 5036 or 6048 and can't decide which to buy. There is a $2000 difference in price.  Please give me some advice on which one would be best for my needs. Thanks for any input.

Wow. Is that a guess or did you really spend $3000 in one year to heat a brand new house? If you are using that many btus and want to heat the barn I would say step up to the 6048. I am heating 1900sq feet plus 1300 ft of garage with a 5036 and not even challenging it but I spent a lot of time and money on the insulation.

6048  Thats a no brainer like the others said you can build a smaller fire,  but when the 5036 is maxed out,  what then? (meaning pulling more btu's than it can make)

6048 for sure I have a 5036 that heats a 2500 square foot home and DHW it doesnt even cough. If I were heating a house and barn I would go with the 6048.

No downside to going with the CL6048. Sounds like the right choice if thoughts of adding that shop later. Has a larger door for easier loading too.

Thanks for all the input everyone.  I was leaning towards the 6048, just needed a little help jumping all in.  It's big investment I just need to pull the trigger now.
