Calhoun County, Illinois. I live right between two small towns you wouldn't know. We are on the western border just north west of St. Louis, MO. Known for our bluffs, peaches, and deer hunting.

Mountains, Northern New Mexico,  Taos county  we are up high in elevation. Gets cold enough to burn from sept to mid June. Dec,Jan, Feb, night time temps -15 to -30 , day temps 5 to 20 degrees. Should have over 3 feet of snow now, but into 4 years of a nasty drought, last decent snow was in October, dry since then.

We kind of used to be the same way. When I was a toddler corn fields to the west, pastures to the east and they just started to let the new state park grow up on the north side of the road.

The last 40 years has seen the trees get a lot bigger in the park so that blocks a lot of the north wind, then the windbreak we planted almost thirty years ago on the west side makes a HUGE difference. Rare to get a real cold wind out of the east but not unheard of.

My cousins place is in the middle of nowhere, nearest tree is 3/4 of a mile away, I hate going there to help do anything in the winter, just plain bitter with any wind at all.

Yeah, even on a calm day it's windy as all heck. We get an inch of snow, then we have 12 inch snow drifts in our yard. But, my wife & I love this spot, main reason why we bought this house with the 360 degree view.
