Closed OWB here..Pressure reads the same with oil boiler and owb....pump doesn't care...Its really on your demand...Really not sure why a pump setting would save wood.....Boiler isnt gonna work harder if you were to have it set at 180 vs if your to have it set at 140.. Once the boiler is satisfied at a set  desired temp its gonna shut down until it needs to be fired  again..Why would you want to slow the pump down?? Dont get it..

The theory behind faster pump speed using less wood is it keeps the water temp more equalized in the boiler. If there are hot spots you will get less heat transfer.

I have not idea if there is any truth to it and I have never seen any test done on it.

Only reason to turn pump to lower setting is to save power.

The pump doesn't use a whole lot of power overall..So on the theory..If I went back to oil heating..If I slowed my pump down on the oil boiler would I save on oil??  whats the difference??

just an opinion no proof....seems to me faster would be better, why i think this, the higher the delta the fasster theh eat transfer so if you can pull the heat away from the fire box quicker, the delta between the water and the fire would be slightly higher and so  heat tranfer would be maximized? i know it would be a very small amount but it is just a thought?
