Who uses water softner systems and whats your thoughts on them?
« on: January 30, 2013, 03:23:44 AM »

Just as title says. I have I believe is a whirlpool water softner system. It recharges the brine at a set time at 4am and I use any salt pellets with the rust preventor. Anybody else using systems like this and any issues thus far with yours?

I have a well with hard water and moderate iron so we have a rain soft whole house unit. It is an older unit that works off a timer but still does its job. I use the salt pellets with rust preventor also, never had any problem except when I let it run out of salt. Hard water just makes soap and detergents less effective an if you wife colors her hair she will let you know when it runs out. ::)

I have one from Sears and use the rust remover salt.  Had it about 6 yrs and never have done anything other than add salt.  Have a whol house filter in front of it.  Well water lots of iron.  I guess that filter keeps nozzles etc from clogging up.  My CB reccomends using softened water to fill it.

I use that same whole house filter and a Water Boss also purchased at Menards. Great value on both and I am well pleased. I also filled my OWF with water that has gone through both with great long term results. I have found the best prices on softner salt at Sam's Club.

I think I paid somewhere around $500 for my water softner system  :bag: Im looking to add a filter in line of the pressure tank. Think I might give this a whirl.
