Is shaver furnaces snake oil?
« on: April 12, 2013, 07:09:40 PM »

Was bored today so I figured I would call shaver and find out about these thick steel fireboxes etc. I found out they have the thickest firebox around and when I asked what temp the average owner operates o was told 150-160. After hearing this I asked how do you stop water corrosion running so cool? I was told the $350 rust buster treatment per 5 gallon takes care of this issue. I hung the phone up somewhat stumped actually and hung the phone up because I had to go into a store. I was told I would be contacted and I was called 2 times in a row after I decide not to answer the phone anymore. So I ask myself and others are these stoves all snake oil or can they be ran at 150-160 without any future issues? Thanks

They don't care if the furnace works or not after the sale, there not hydronic experts by any form of the imagination, they weld a pipe in a pipe an build a fire in it.

Many folks don't realize most these folks are simply welders and fabricators, they know nothing about hydronics

Look on this forum or any for that matter about all the shavers rusting out, I'm not saying that's from low water return temps but the fact that you asked him a question that had absolutely nothing to do with water quality and he responded with that says a lot about them

Im on my second shaver and they have both rusted out.  Had to repair the second one as they would no longer talk to me on the phone.  Poor quality and full of crap.
