The favorite part you love about your stove?

My favorite part is the chimney bypass handle. What a great design that I would never buy a stove without.

Makes a nice backdrop for the smoker and I don't have to use that blue oblong thing over there for heating. Oh, and it keeps me warm. ;D

I enjoy promoting an abundant, renewable resource that gives the homeowner the LIBERTY that I personally have enjoyed for the past 10 years. I have not burned 1 drop of oil since I put our OWB in 10 years ago, it payed for itself in 2 1/2 years. we would be burning about 3500 gallons of oil per year if we burned oil, any questions?

I enjoy all the things everyone has mentioned but the smell in the air when I walk outside is also something I look forward too.  When it's well below zero and I open that door and see the heat being made that is also a real nice feeling.

Loving this thread considering I just had $350 of oil delivered to get me to Oct 7 when my OWB is installed.

Someone care to enlighten a newbie. What's a chimney bypass handle and how does it help?

Some stoves that are more basic in design will smoke out the door really hard when door is open, so to alleviate the design issue they have a rod they can pull that will allow more smoke out the stack when door is open

Your empyre will smoke out the door a bit, but nothing like a lot of models

One thing from my experience is once your onto your stove and learn it well, when u "sense" it's time to go put wood in, there won't be nothing left to smoke anyway, people battling smoke are often putting wood in to often

Also some gassers have smoke bypasses when loading because all of there exhaust goes down instead of up, so if u don't have access to open a hole in top when loading, the door becomes the chimney

Sounds similar to my indoor wood stove.

Is the chimney bypass something that can be added to a unit like the Empyre? or is this something people put on their homemade units?

No, you can't add it...  You won't need it "I don't think".  I've been around the 250's quite a bit and there not bad about it, and the exhaust curtain that hangs down in the back has 2 - 4" holes in it that allow it to draw better when the door is open

Not entirely on home built units but on gassers with a lot of brands and a few do it on conventional stoves

No. You will just have to let it smoke out the door and wait in the cold til you're able to toss more wood in.

Not the worst thing in the world. If I'm outside, I don't mind the cold. Plus it'll give me a few more minutes away from the wife's nagging.
