pump size with 3/4 lines

I've got a CB 1400 with approx. 60' of pex like pipe. and 60' of copper pipe. 20, 90 degree elbows, a shell and tube hx and a 20 plate hx. I know the 3/4 pipe isn't the best set up however, its what i have to work with right now. I can't find any charts to help me with sizing a system with 3/4 lines ( I'm sure for good reason) could you guys help me out at all? I would be happy to supply more info if needed. I have a taco 009 sitting around that just needs a new insert if that will work. Thanks!

I'm not an expert on pump size but I do have experience with 3/4 lines. 10 years ago when I installed my first furnace into my home I used 3/4 with about 75 ft from my home. That experience cured me from ever wanting to install 3/4 again, the only time I have used it since was on a direct radiator system that was about 30 ft from the house to the furnace.  After a year or two I upgraded to a 011 and that helped some but still wasn't what I needed. After a few more years I installed 1inch lines 180ft from my house. Now I use a 007 and get twice the heat. The moral of the story is when using 3/4 always oversize the pump like crazy. There are other guys on here that can tell you the exact model to use, my only reason for replying is to make sure you know what you are dealing with.

dang it. I was afraid of that. It wouldnt help me at all to change just the pex type pipe to 1" pex would it? I'd need to change it all over to 1" to see a change correct? Thank you for the reply regardless. I appreciate it.

Well eliminating half of the 3/4 would did help

If we knew more about what your heating we'd know more about what to do

But, getting a properly sized pump will be the key

as far as moving water the 3/4 copper is better than the 3/4 pex and if the lengths of pipe you say you have are TOTAL length and not one way measurments than a taco 11 would do the job for you

ok. I'm hoping to heat a two story 2200 sq. ft. home with base board heat. I would say its insulated between ok and well. Its 19 years old. I live in Northwest Pa. in the snow belt. Does this help?

Scott is there a different brand that you would recommend that might work better? I have no problem with Taco but I'm not loyal either. Just wondering. Thanks everyone for your replies  :thumbup:

So it is only 30' of pex and 30' of copper each way? If so, you should be able to make it work. Is the plate heat exchanger the normal size? (around  5"x12")

Taco 009 and 0011 will probably not be that much different. You will likely end up somewhere near the flow curves of the two pumps cross.

Pretty much any pump with a max head at least 30' is what I would look for.
